This was a special getaway for a 60th Birthday celebration and the 4th or 5th time we have stayed at what was known to us as Spruce Peak Lodge. Paid parking is required and we opted for Valet since it was the lesser of the two paid parking options but always the tips ($ 5 each time) and the staff very nice but something we weren't prepared for. Paid an extra $100 per day for an upgrade of a room with a fridge (no complimentary upgrades here) $60 for a round of drinks at the bar (Sorry but the bartender made a mediocre martini) I seem to remember that we also got a complimentary pass to the peak of the Mountain via gondola (now $40 per person-though in their defense, that may have been a perk at that time) We stayed at the front of the facility (facility seems to be more appropriate word) and had a very unrestful 1st night of sleep as every time a car came to the front of the facility, there was a speed bump that made an awful sound that kept waking me and then finding it's way in my dreams....the 2nd and last night, I was a bit conditioned after hearing that day and night so not as bad. This place seems fitted much more to large business accommodations but not at all for a couple trying to get away for rest, peace and autonomy. I am sorry to leave such a poor review and had already contacted the manager but got no sincere concern. And that's what I would expect....Sorry that we came in good faith thinking it would be like that other times but no more for us. We will be somewhere...
Read moreFrom the moment we arrived, the staff at the Lodge made us feel welcome, and they quickly and efficiently took care of our every need. The room was exactly as shown: spotlessly clean, with a warm and contemporary look. This studio, was the right size for us (a couple), and with the features to support a five day stay. For skiing at Stowe, there's no better place to stay, because we were able to walk rather than drive to the slopes. Our skis and boots are taken care of by the ski valet service each day, and ready each morning for the day's ski fun. After changing into our boots in their warm and comfortable changing area, we got our skis on the rack outside and walked about 50 yards to the up and over gondola, which is a 15 second walk to the mountain gondola or a quick ski traverse over to the Forerunner Quad, which opens 30 minutes before the other lifts. When we are done, we just returned the skis and boots to the valet, and then went to two outdoor hot tubs at the heated pool. A small but very well equipped galley kitchen area let us make dinners when we were to tired to go out, or just wanted to save money or calories. After dinner, we relaxed on the couch, warmed by the fireplace, enjoying the beautiful mountain view as the groomers made the trails ready for the next day. We slept well on the comfy bed with very comfortable sheets. This is a true gem, expertly supported by the owners, who made the renting experience a breeze. When we return to Stowe, we'll...
Read moreThe unit itself was nice and in good shape other than the ripped carpet at the transition between the tiled kitchen floor and the carpeted living room. The bigger issue was with how we were treated by the management company Stowe Mountain Rentals (which is an entirely different company from The Lodge at Spruce Peak).
We were staying on the top floor and in one of the bedrooms the ceiling is approximately 18 feet high. The curtains are affixed to the ceiling and run all the way down to the floor. On the last night of our stay, while I was closing the curtains using the drawstring, the track holding the curtains in place pulled partially out of the ceiling. The Lodge at Spruce Peak is not allowed to do any sort of maintenance work on the units owned and/or managed by Stowe Mountain Rentals due to some sort of prior lawsuit. Since it was 10:00 at night we left it the way it was and went to sleep. We checked out early the following morning and promptly notified Stowe Mountain Rentals of what happened. A woman from Stowe Mountain Rentals named Stephanie replied back that there was no way this happened from normal use and that it must have been the result of one of our children hanging or swinging on the curtain. Really????? I'm sorry Stephanie, but you are way out of line with that accusation.
Anyone looking to stay at The Lodge at Spruce Peak, go directly to the lodge and do not book through Stowe...
