I tried coming to this store twice and both times the owner made an excuse to not let me and my family in. First time she said the.store wasn’t quite open. It was 3:58 pm, there were lovely items on display on the porch, the store was lit with everything in its place. I was do disappointed because the store looked so inviting but I decided to return the next day. On the next day, I returned with my husband and daughters. We looked on the porch and had made some selections to purchase. My daughter tried walking in and the owner came to the door and told us the store was only open by appointment and almost pushed her back when she closed the door and locked it. There was no mention of appointments on the door and no mention of it the day before when she sent me away. Needless to say this is a lovely store with beautiful pieces inside and out….unfortunately I wasn’t able to see them all for myself because my family and I were not welcomed. I hate to say that he word discrimination but I sensed it and it did not feel right. No one should feel what I just felt. Tomorrow will be another day and Stowe, VT is full of lovely stores with inviting sweet salespersons and I will feel like pretty woman…”big mistake”. U hurt with the wrong family. Please know this before you go and let us know how it goes for you. My advice is to...
Read moreChalet Life is like a lot of the finer things in Vermont. It is layered in thoughtfulness and detail. We were invited in on a summer afternoon, as the owner was friendly and welcoming. When walking in, you will notice multiple themes and curated items. Curios of indeterminate age are clean but show their true lives. A walkway guides the store patron through the retail experience.
A fun part of the Chalet Life is that, if you walk through the whole store, you'll notice that there are a few rooms dedicated to fashion and clothing. This was a warm surprise because it gives the impression that this can be a personal place for a woman to try on different outfits and such. I write that it gives this impression, because as I walked into the room, I am pretty sure I didn't see any jeans that they sell at Costco. My observational capacity is limited sometimes, because I've missed a few good deals for a decent pair of fitted jeans.
If you are a wandering fashionista, or a home decorator, or you have a keen eye, or you are looking for some inspiration, I would come here. Actually, just make it a point to come here and find something to decorate your chalet with. But, make sure to understand the delicate nature of some items, it deserves care and you can surely see the care that has been put into this...
Read moreI could not agree more with Raul's review. My friend and I tried to come into Chalet Life this afternoon. The minute I walked through the door a woman informed me there were no drinks allowed in the store, I was carrying a coffee, I let her know I would throw it out and come back. She then asked in a demeaning tone if I had been to the store before, I informed her I had not, she then said "yes, I don't recognize you, I'm only serving regulars right now" and motioned for my friend and I to leave, she did not apologize, or suggest a time to come back, she made it quite clear we were not welcome. We left feeling embarrassed and confused, as there there were no signs indicating the store was open by appointment only. I came to Chalet Life with some reservations, I am a local and had heard unsavory stories about the customer service at Chalet Life. I will not be returning and was saddened to see I was not the only one who has experienced this treatment. There are a million other amazing places to buy overpriced antiques in Vermont, don't waste...
