Lake Champlain Chocolates — Restaurant in Stowe

This review is a little deceiving because the quality of chocolates themselves are more befitting of five shiny stars. Alas, I deducted a point each for poor customer service and their lack of allergy friendly chocolates, respectively.

The bad stuff out of the way first. Customer service is next to nothing. Questions? They don't have answers. If they do have answers, it's with an attitude. Employees do not create a welcoming environment and instead give off the impression as though somehow you're bothering them by offering your patronage.

I also understand that not everyone is obligated to offer allergy friendly options, but if you dare as so much even ASK if they offer allergy friendly options, they answer extremely rude. The attitudes in this place are honestly appaling and have made me second guess going there.

HOWEVER, with that said, their chocolates are truly unrivaled. Not many chocolatiers offer dark chocolate options, and if they do, it's watered down, second rate dark chocolate, but this dark chocolate is some of the best I've had from a chocolate shops. Their flavors are unique and adventurous, although sometimes difficult to actually taste, but overall, AMAZING truffles. Some of the best around.

Would love to give them 5 stars, but the customer service just...

High rating is misleading, most reviews are for the previous establishment (Laughing Moon). That establishment was purchased by Lake Champlain, so Lake Champlain “bought” the good Google reviews. Laughing Moon had flavors you couldn’t get anywhere else (chipotle, lavender chèvre, black pepper and basil), all chocolate truffles were large, a real treasure. Lake Champlain has nice branding but offers chocolates for a mass market, quality and flavor is not different from what you can get at a grocery store. Google should reset the reviews.

They do this all the time for new businesses. There is a process for this, but I expect you don’t want to reset the reviews because you would not achieve anywhere near the level of reviews that Laughing Moon did. We were in Stowe for my bday weekend and my hubby took me to this cute chocolate store. We bought an assortment and they had every type of chocolate under the sun including our favorite marzipan, orange slices, espresso, lavender, raspberry cream and what not. Everything was fresh unlike many other chocolate stores that serve stale pieces.

I am also not a coffee fan but because it was getting slightly warmer outside and I wanted something like a Frappuccino which they did not have. However, I made a bizarre request and asked the staff if they can make me a “cold cappuccino” with oat milk instead and even though it wasn’t on the menu they went out of their way to do so and it was AMAZING!

I loved the store and now wish we would have brought home more chocolates!

Great staff, welcoming vibe and the chocolates are awesome! There was something very nostalgic about this store and I cannot pin point what exactly but it brought back fond memories of my deceased...
