We stayed at the Hacienda de Sol for two nights during our road trip in New Mexico, and overall, we had a good experience. The room was beautiful, overlooking the garden, and had excellent water pressure in the shower. The lounge area was stunning and provided a peaceful atmosphere. The hotel is located one mile from Taos Pueblo, and plenty of parking was available during our visit. However, the internet connection was spotty, which caused the TV to stop working occasionally. I'm not sure if this was due to the location of our room or if everyone experienced the same issue. We stayed in the La Sala Room, which was serene but had some drawbacks. The air conditioning didn’t work well; it wouldn’t cool down below 71°F, which felt hot to us, although I understand that this temperature might be comfortable for others. Additionally, there was a sunroof right above the bed, and every morning, sunlight streamed in, which disturbed my sleep as I am sensitive to light. The garden was lovely and offered a fantastic view of Taos Mountain. We enjoyed relaxing there in the afternoon. Breakfast was delicious! Cory prepared various tasty dishes, including orange juice, coffee, milk, tea, croissants, fruit, cereal, and more. Peyton was very welcoming and provided excellent recommendations for things to do in the area. I would recommend staying here if you are visiting.

Stayed in La Sala Del Sol room, was booked by my work. When I arrive I can’t get in the hotel because apparently if you book through them you’re given a code. I didn’t get one because the guy who finally showed up after three calls said I booked through a “weird” site. The place is old but kind of romantic. The bed is comfortable and they give good coffee and food. I wanted to get breakfast in the morning at 7:30 which is the time stated in the binder inside the room, but the breakfast girl said it opens at 8. I showed her the binder, she said oh, did you check in late? I replied yes. She said that’s why…I still don’t understand that answer. She said I could get breakfast early. I got some and went to my room. I wanted to eat it outside my door at the bistro. Cats came into my room as a result. I went to tell her stray cats are in my room now, but first I hear her accusingly ask me did I just take 6 pastries? I said no. I took two. As a matter of fact, I took breakfast. That’s what I took. When I told her cats invaded my room as I opened the door, she said they’re not stray we are re-homing them. Taos is very beautiful and less pretentious than Santa Fe, but when you visit you might be a little thrown off. It’s pretty country. I don’t mean the scenery. They just have a it is what it is view on things. I would stay again but expect weirdness.

I had my wedding at Hacienda del Sol on November 20th. The state shut down due to covid while we were on our way from California. We had planned to explore town and go out to eat, but instead we were confined to the hotel. It turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise! We stayed in the Amantes room and loved using the tub, steam shower, and wood burning fire place as well as the comfiest sheets I may have ever experienced. We had a small group of friends joining us who loved their rooms as well. The grounds are beautiful, with a great view of Taos Mountain. Leslie and Zach were out raking the part of the yard the ceremony would take place the evening before, which was great attention to detail. There were great heaters in the courtyard as well which helped keep everyone outside (covid) when it got chilly at night. Breakfast hit the spot every time. I'm used to free hotel breakfasts being a choice of toast or oatmeal, but every day was a choice of french toast, huevos ranchers, omlettes, fritatas, pancakes, etc! Overall, the staff took what could have been a very stressful situation and made it effortless. From recommending a great restaurant to deliver food, to coordinating with vendors on the wedding day. Everything was perfect! I can't wait to come back for an anniversary someday and actually get to explore the town as well!

The room was very hard to find with a night checkin (no light on the room name as on the other rooms); very cute & large room and bathroom, but broken gfi plate which is code violation from where I live.

The other issue I had and felt was handled very poorly and unprofessionally was when I asked some accommodation be done when I found dried blood on the pillow I used all night ( had a late check in, after mid nite), and was so exhausted, I just moved pillows in the dark, and ants on the pillow and under covers when I returned from early breakfast to nap before hitting the road again.

As I lay down on top of the bed to let the hotel know what I had experienced and sent pics, I shared as more ants appeared, 1 on my arm & 2 more when I got up. NO nap possible, I had 4 1/2 hours of sleep, and NO accommodation was offered.

During the text exchange, I was asked “what would I like them to do”, so I requested they comp the room (my brother had kindly booked and paid for the room since I had been driving for many hours already with our 87 year old mother). I also didn’t care for the fact they made mention of my service animal’s hair in a snarky manner after saying they had a no pet policy, yet “had they known” they had “ special rooms” for such. I apologized for the gap as my brother booked the room, however, I reminded them that my 9lb service animal and I are not treated differently. Also with respect to all the ants I found on the bed and my body, the response was, “ I apologize. The flying ants are hatching all over town due to the lack of rain. Everyone I know is battling them.”

After all the excuses, no immediate action, and reprimand over my service animal I got furious and asked them to focus on the real problems and indicate how they would take care of it.

They said they “took care of it“ with my brother, and did NOT answer me when I asked if they comped the room.

NO accommodation or extension of good will was made to myself or my mother who endured the pain of staying there. I still get creeped out when I feel anything on my body now, thinking it’s another ant.

SO if you don’t want to deal with electrical code violations, health concerns by mingling with prior guests blood or other fluids, OR deal with (common) flying ants, stay far far away from this place. If I can figure out how to post pics, I will.

Response to Hacienda: Instead of reacting with an unprofessional, and indignant response. Perhaps addressing the electric code violations (broken electrical plate/insufficient lighting in parking lot), bodily fluid health concern (dried blood on the pillow), pest control (ants crawling on my arm and all over and in the bed sheets), that lead to a horrible night/morning of rest in a HOTEL, the owner could offer some form of good will as none was offered.

YES, I review both EXCEPTIONAL, and SHADY/UNPROFESSIONAL experiences, and in a hotel if there is a code, health and pest problem I would want to know because I myself am not fond of any of these, particularly sleeping with bugs of any sort.

As far as "shaking you down for $", perhaps you forgot that my brother kindly booked and paid for this establishment, and I asked the room get comped when asked "how should (you) handle it". I didn't ask for the $, I fully expected you to comp my BROTHER who booked it because his sister and 87 year old mother did NOT get the rest expected. Ants crawling on my arm was the last straw and we left early.

Unfortunately, your response is consistent with the issues stated, and perhaps I should file a lawsuit and turn you into health and code since you've indicated no remedy for...

First of all, I'd like to acknowledge that the inn has a beautiful view of the mountains and the common areas are cozy and nicely decorated. Our room (the Taos Suite) had some functional issues. There were not enough surface areas to put things on--the bed (although comfortable) has minimalist night stands attached to the bed and the bathroom had a single pedestal sink with no shelf or room to put toiletries. Our room also had a stripped down hostel aesthetic with no rugs or artwork. ||||Additionally, we had an awful experience interacting with one of the owners (Mike). We were traveling with a 1 year old and requested a crib or pack and play when we made our reservation. Weeks later, when we already en route to the B&B, Mike informed us that they didn't have a crib. At this point, it was already too late to make other arrangements. We tried sleeping with our toddler the first night but this led to no sleep for us or the toddler. We called Mike and again requested he accommodate our child, but he rudely accused us of being irresponsible parents for not brining our own pack and play. We stayed at a total of 5 B&Bs/Inns/Hotels on our trip to New Mexico and Hacienda del Sol was the only place that didn't provide a crib. We flew to NM and it would have been a huge hassle to take a pack and play with us through the airport, and Mike would have needed to let us know they didn't have one when we made the reservation weeks earlier instead of informing us hours before we were due to arrive. We had to scramble and find another place another place to stay in Taos, which was huge hassle that could have been easily avoided if Mike was professional enough to check his messages and provide essential sleeping arrangement for...

My partner and I recently enjoyed a stay at the Hacienda Del Sol in Taos, NM, specifically in the La Casita suite, which proved to be a fantastic choice for couples. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the wood fireplaces, which added a cozy and romantic ambiance to our evenings.||However, our delightful experience was somewhat marred by cleanliness and maintenance issues. Upon arrival, we were greeted by cobwebs in many corners of the suite, indicating a lack of thorough cleaning. Additionally, the kitchen not only lacked updates but also did not meet our cleanliness expectations, which was disappointing for a suite at this price point.||We also encountered problems with the electrical setup in the suite. Many of the switches did not function correctly, leading to frustration and inconvenience as we tried to navigate the lighting in the space. Furthermore, the small kiva fireplace in the bedroom, while a charming feature, proved difficult to use due to a lack of clear instructions.||Given these issues, it’s our opinion that the La Casita suite is in dire need of a renovation. For the price per night, we expected a higher standard of accommodation, especially in terms of cleanliness, modern amenities, and overall maintenance.||While the Hacienda Del Sol offers a charming and potentially romantic getaway in Taos, our recent experience leads us to explore other options for our next visit. We hope that our feedback encourages improvements that will enhance the experience for...
