Very friendly, hardworking, and helpful front desk person, Tijana (from Montenegro, of all places!), gave me an upgraded room when she learned that I had never stayed here before. Everything from the parking lot to the lobby to the rooms and everything in it was really clean. Even the armoire type tv cabinet amazed me - It is high quality, solid wood furniture. I wouldn't at all have minded to have it in my house. I haven't had the breakfast yet so can't comment. Three only thing to improve would be the very flat, thin pillows. The bed is so huge it even seems larger than a king and is fairly comfortable. My room even has a very clean and in very good condition jacuzzi. This is a very good value for $59 + tax. I would have guessed $159 considering overpriced Taos prices. The Indian Hills (?) place nearby is fine, but it's $139 and up. I would never, ever stay there when this perfectly good motel is available at $59.

My friend and I booked a room last minute over 4th of July weekend and were pleasantly surprised by the great rates and availability. Check-in took a little longer due to a down computer, but the staff was friendly and efficient. The lobby was clean, cool, and inviting. Our second-floor room was spacious, clean, and had thoughtful touches like slippers, though it was missing an iron, ironing board, and tissues. While we suspect it may have been a smoking room before renovation, the air purifier did an excellent job. The shower pressure was great, and the room stayed quiet throughout our stay. The location was ideal—just far enough from the downtown crowds but still close to everything. Though the ice machine was out, the front desk happily got us ice from the café, which we also loved for its convenience and extra seating. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely return!

Renovations have been ongoing for a couple years now, we got one of the untouched rooms (previously stayed on the back side in an updated room a year or two ago, same or better price). Smelled like cigarette smoke in the room but the pregnant partner didn't mind/couldn't smell it. She did complain of the tub shaking/unstable/unsteady. Second night the tv/internet went out around 9p, after 1.5hrs no fix called to be hung up on twice, then called from the lobby with someone who answered and said we "had internet" but they would be by to fix the tv, 25mins ago. For $270 for 2 nights, this doesn't compute. I stayed here in Dec 2020 and the room was unchanged from then to now (literally 2-3 rooms down). Wouldn't recommend this as a first choice. They do have a nicer lobby and espresso bar up front now, though.

During a camping trip in northern New Mexico, I had a medical situation. Since I had to drive to Taos to pick up a prescription, a kind family member offered to pay for a hotel/motel room for me for the night. I was supposed to stay at the Quality Inn, but they ended up not having a pet friendly room available. Anyway, my family member looked at this "lodge" as an alternative.

She called Taos Valley Lodge to ask about the pet fee. During the conversation, the (ostensibly male) desk clerk told her I would not be allowed to check in without the credit card used to make the reservation. She explained the room was for me, she was in another state, and I would not have her credit card. The desk clerk reiterated that I would not be allowed to check in without presenting the credit card used to make the reservation along with my ID. When my family member continued to try to explain the situation, the clerk told her to hang on while he went to double check. My family member had to hand the phone to her husband so she could talk to someone at Booking(dot)com who was trying to help her sort out this mess. While my family member's husband was waiting, the call was disconnected. We figured Taos Valley Lodge was out of the running, so we all moved on.

Well. When Booking(dot)com sent an email about the pet friendly location they'd found for me in Taos, guess what. It was at the Taos Valley Lodge. My family member was hesitant to accept the reservation if the desk clerk wasn't going to let me check in without my family member's credit card in hand. So I called the Taos Valley Lodge, and the fellow who answered the phone gave me the same song and dance. He even asked if he hadn't already talked to me. I said he had talked to my family member, and added, "You hung up on him." He didn't deny he had hung up. He didn't even try to say the call must have dropped. He just said, oh, because he knew what he had done!!!

He was adamant that I could not check in without the credit card, so I just gave up on him and the Taos Valley Lodge. I thanked him for his time and hung up while he continued to tell me I couldn't check in without a credit card that was in a different state.

The desk clerk then apparently told Booking(dot)com that he couldn't fulfill the reservation because he didn't have any pet friendly rooms to rent.

Oh well. I ended up staying at the Historic Taos Inn where all of the staff was wonderful and kind and no one asked to see my ID or my family member's...

BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE!!! Terrible Service!!

These people lost my registration card and at midnight a man came banging on my door and yelling that I must open the door and that there was no record of me paying for my room. The man was extremely rude and treated our family as if we were some kind of criminals. He expected me to open the door in the middle of the night at a hotel where the rooms open to the outside parking lot; and he expected me to believe that he was from the front desk. My children were terrified. I told him I would call the police to get him to stop banging on the door and he said "fine, I'll wait for them at the front desk". I called the front desk and asked what was this all about and the woman told me the same thing... there was no record of me paying and that there was ski equipment in that room. I told her that there was no equipment in the room and that I had paid for two nights. She expected me to remember who had checked me in (at midnight and after such a rude awakening!). I was unable to sleep the rest of the night and my wife and children were shaking in fear. When I complained the next morning and asked for my money back, the manager only refunded the 2nd night since she said "you already slept one night". I told her I did not sleep that night since this guy came banging on the door threatening us.

These people were not sincerely sorry for their disorganization and causing such an unpleasant experience for our family. They said "sorry but we just did not know who was in that room". Our family should not be treated like this just because of their administrative mess. When I told her that they could have called into the room instead of banging on the door she said that she sent the guy because of a report of a door that was not closing and that that was the main reason he went to our room; to check the door. I told her that was not what he said when he banged on the door. And that was not what she said when I called the front desk in the middle of the night. These were some very rude and unprofessional people.

In addition, rooms are smelly. They actually gave me a different room because the first one stunk to...
