We have stayed at other Hilton hotels and if this is TLDR, just note: BY Hilton doesn't mean THE Hilton. We won't be staying again.
We live in Chandler but our 4 daughters had dance shows in Tempe Friday and Saturday so we decided to stay in Tempe to make it easier on us. We paid about $205 per night through a 3rd party vs the $304 price I was quoted by the hotel's website.
The first night we were there was May 31st and we had booked the 2 bedroom suite online. The room was semi-clean but outdated, with dirty walls and cracks in the walls/ceiling. The handicapped bench in the shower in the King bedroom was broken and coming off the wall. We didn't need to use it but it's an obvious hazard. The carpets were kind of dirty and one of my daughters stepped on broken glass in the bathroom. I had to go to the front desk and request gauze, bandaids and Neosporin. There was a dark haired woman up front who was very helpful in retrieving the first aid supplies for me but didn't seem to care that there was broken glass in a supposedly clean room. The beds weren't super comfortable but they were ok.
Breakfast was meh. The eggs were powdered, the oatmeal was overcooked in a vat. The baked goods were semi-stale. I feel like I can't complain too much about free food BUT when we sat down to eat, we noticed mites crawling around on our plates. Only my 5 year old didn't have them and we realized they had come from the blackberries. I have honestly never even seen live mites on blackberries and this was very offputting.
The second night we were there, we decided to hang out in the pool. There was a group of preteen boys at the pool with basketballs, throwing them around and our 5 year old daughter even got hit in the head pretty hard by one. There were never any parents around even though minors are supposed to be supervised at the pool and no hotel staff ever checked. There were also no pool towels. Just a heap of dirty ones and when we asked about towels, we were told they were coming. We went back 20 minutes later and were told they weren't dry. A guy at the front desk was nice and did give me room towels instead.
On check out day, I not only requested late check out on our original online booking, but also made sure it was noted that we wanted late checkout the day before. We had hotel staff come to our door 3 times trying to get into the room, even when I had a do not disturb sign out. Kind of annoying.
When we were packing up our car, we used the side door that was close to our room. There was a woman smoking just outside the door. We couldn't even open it until she noticed us. I expected her to clear the doorway but she didn't, she just stepped to the side, right next to the door. One of my daughters is asthmatic and cigarette smoke is a huge trigger. I asked the woman if she would clear the area while we were loading up and she said "yeah ok, I'll move, hun" with a snarky attitude. On our next trip out, she was still by the door. Cigarette smoke was literally coming inside the hotel when we opened the door. I said "oh, still not going to move? You know you're supposed to be 30 feet from a building entrance, right?" She put her phone to her ear and ignored me so I said "ok, guess I'm just gonna report your a* then." My teenagers went and reported her to the front desk but nothing happened. I went and said something to the front desk and still, no one came to do anything about it. On our last trip outside, the woman was still within 30 feet of the doorway and she pointed at an ashtray and said "there's an ashtray bh." I laughed and responded "There's an ashtray so it's cool to expose children to second hand smoke. YOU are the inconsiderate b*h." She looked to be in her 60s and I realize that it wasn't considered dangerous until recently but it is. It turns out her name is Alison and she is the assistant manager at the garden inn by Hilton, in the same parking lot. When I went inside to check out, she was huddled with the manager of Homewood, who did NOT care about our experience. Very...
Read moreAfter we checked in I complained to my husband about struggling to breathe. We left for a party that we were in town for, then returned to stay overnight. The bed was not comfortable, nor were the pillows (both were too soft). The bedding was course to the touch in places (fitted sheet). The next morning I woke up to my eyes being swollen shut and a massive headache. My husband was looking out the window and saw cats on the sills of other rooms. It hit him that there had been cats in this room and we are both highly allergic! A pet friendly hotel has NEVER meant cats to me. I obviously should have read the reviews on TripAdvisor first before booking this hotel! My husband went to the front desk to ask about the cats and was told that the Hilton corporation decided to amend their pet policy to include all pets vs. their prior policy of being just on the first floor, just certain animals, etc. as patrons had complained about inability to bring their animals. At the end of the day, humans are the ones paying for the rooms, not the animals. Making a decision such as this clearly tells me that Hilton properties no longer want my business so I will be taking it elsewhere. The room was dirty (shower had someone elses' hair ball in it), the desk chair was all scratched up (now we know it was due to the cats), bedding needs replacing, etc. We will no longer be staying...
Read moreI came alongside my husband for a business trip. We chose this hotel for the location. It was walkable to his job, shopping, and restaurants.
The hotel itself was hit and miss. We got there late in the evening, the room we paid for was not available, and we were told it won't be for two days. It was disappointing. The guy charged us the rate for the original room booked even though the room that was given was cheaper. He also was not very welcoming, or friendly. We spoke to the manager the next morning and it was a whole different experience. She was very professional and understanding, and was able to switch us to the room we paid for and also offered discount on it. I also had a hard time obtaining a second key for my husband for the new room. They told me a reason that absolutely made no sense since we had two keys for the previous room. There was a lack of staff at the front desk and times. Some of the staff were very nice and friendly and others just cold and uncaring. The rooms even though fairly new felt a bit outdated. It was very loud at times. Hallways and elevators smelled like weed at times. Breakfast was ok. The gym was nice. Was thankful they allowed us to have late checkout without a charge
Other than the location and accessibility I am not sure if we would want to...
