Where do I begin, our party of six will never be back. If you’re going to eat brunch, JUST DON’T! No need to read on, but if you wanna know why here it goes….
We went for brunch, for a festive Sunday afternoon. He wanted to eat outside, but they wouldn’t move tables together because they say the table legs keep breaking! We sat at an uncomfortable high top.
On the menu, there aren’t very many brunch options, and there are even less for gluten-free. I ordered hot tea, but they don’t have ANY teabags so they gave me hot water with lemon and honey. If that was the only issue it wouldn’t have been a big deal. I laughed it off.
The gluten-free menu had two choices for omelettes. My husband and I chose the second one listed. When the food came out, it was not what we ordered. Evidently, the two menus we both were given are out of date. The server ASSUMED we ordered the one omelette from the regular menu. So he didn’t LISTEN to our order actually.
So four people got to eat right away. The manager came out and informed us that the price would be higher than the one on the menu. She apologized because they don’t have a button for the lower priced omelette we ordered. She wanted to make sure that was OK with us. We agreed what could we do… she said they already put the other “one” in to cook. So we had to wait for our food till everybody else finished theirs. My husband and I received ONE omelet, shared and finished it, thinking they forgot the other one. (we weren’t gonna ask for the other one thinking we could get out of there sooner!) because we had to order gluten-free we did not get any bread and we were told by the waiter no substitutions for the bread were available. Surprisingly, 10 minutes later the other one came out! We were still very hungry, so we just split it up again ate it anyway. Naturally, everybody else was long done eating before we began our first omelette. The manager didn’t come out again to apologize for this obvious additional debacle. I would’ve thought they would compensate us for one of the omelettes, but they gave us five dollars off our two meals. (which probably only served to balance out the price differential from the menu) Without substitutions for the bread, we just got LESS FOOD than everyone else.
Also… NOT ONE of us was happy with their meal. Two people got a side of bacon. Four pieces came on one dish and it was delivered to only one person. We weren’t informed that we were being served family style. The bacon was gone before the other person got theirs. Luckily after being informed, they brought out two skimpy slices for the other person. Two other friends ordered the omelette also, one was nice and full, and the other was so skimpy & visibly thin that she had to go out and eat somewhere else immediately afterwards. (evidently when they were portioning it out, they made a mistake.) We mentioned it to the waiter that hers was only a quarter inch thick, and hardly any omelette was in there, and the waiter said “they portion it out in the kitchen ”… Obviously this waiter is not listening! At the table everyone was so over this so called “waiter” they just let it go.
Three of the six people left hungry! So we will never ever eat there again! No, we do not want a discount coupon or an incentive to come back because even that won’t bring us in! I wouldn’t eat...
Read moreI went to Bar Louie last Sunday after watching a movie at the Harkins. My friend just came from Tucson so I wanted to take her to something nice. We walked in.. the four of us and there was no one to greet us. We stood in the front for a while and then we realized nobody was coming so then we started milling around and just picked any table. My friend letting us them if we were supposed to wait for a hostess and they said no sit where you want so we sat down and we did not have any wait staff come to our table for at least 8 minutes we just sat there with no menus no water nothing and it wasn't even busy. We could see the wait staff in the back just chatting with each other and nobody paid us any attention. Finally a guy came to take our order but we didn't even have menus. That is not a good way to start out where you don't acknowledge your customers and it takes you awhile to get to their table so right then and there they were downgraded in my opinion. We finally ordered. I had the tortilla soup which wasn't bad actually it didn't have a lot of broth and it was mostly the vegetables and the tortilla strips in the chicken. It would have been better if it was more soup like as opposed to just a regular dish. My friend ordered the potato chips with the blue cheese as an appetizer if we all go down that pretty well. That was delicious but super fattening. My other friend had a salad she was a good girl that day. My other friend have the sliders. The place is a little expensive for what you get. But the food was tasty and everything came out in an orderly fashion. The thing I like about it is that it's open till 2 a.m. . They have good happy hours too. Good place to catch a snack while shopping at Tempe...
Read moreThis place is one of my all time favorites! This is our go to spot! Drinks are amazing most times and the food is always delicious. Try the chicken nachos (but instead of chips try it with fries!!)
Update: For the past eight years, we've been going to Bar Louie. Initially, we ordered chicken nachos, and our server at the time suggested substituting the chips for fries, which became our favorite (as you can see from my previous review). For years, we ordered the same thing every time we went. However, when trying to place that order last night, the server (who was nice by the way) informed us tonight that the manager (Jamal) said they had NEVER done that before. (he's been there less than two years). My daughter and I just was there and it was done.
In order to let him know it has been something we have been doing for years, we asked if we could speak to him. He approached the table with an attitude, as if he were being inconvenienced. After we told him it’s something we have repeatedly done, he argued that they made a mistake by doing so since they can't track it. Weird. Despite our mention that it was a server who suggested it and we have been having it that way for years, he again said that it was an error on every server that did it. Although we understand that menus change, the way he approached us was extremely rude and the situation made us decide not to order food and to never return! For years, we enjoyed going back to this place, but Jamal has definitely destroyed that. Obviously, it’s not about the food it’s about Jamal and how he handled the situation. It is important for Bar Louie owners to hire a manager who understands how to solve issues rather than cause them. We will...
