Booked a two night stay. Checked for bedbugs, but never thought to check a hotel for roaches! We didn’t see them our first night, as they were probably drawn out by the snacks we had (they were around the fridge area of our room only). We found four on the second night, and left immediately upon finding them. We had to abandon anything that we had on the fridge area that was open for fear that it was contaminated. The lady who was working the overnight desk service was so friendly and apologetic, and even offered us a different room, but there was no way we were staying in the same hotel we just found critters in.
Don’t try to talk to the general manager about a refund for these kinds of problems though! She tried to imply on the phone that we brought the roaches in and that she had “never had a problem with pests before” (cue the other reviews on here about pests). We had to argue for our refund, because she was upset that we didn’t just take another room, and seemed upset that we would even call about roaches at all, continuing to imply that it was our fault that they were even there in the first place (I’m paranoid about roaches and my home ending up infested, and we couldn’t stay in the hotel after finding them because I had an anxiety attack so bad because I’m so afraid now that we are going to bring one home and become infested ourselves!). She really didn’t seem to care that there were roaches at all, saying things like “oh it’s Florida those things happen”, and “that’s never happened to that room before you were in it”, and “you didn’t see them on the first night?!”. She is rude and demeaning to the customers when they have problems, and I probably would’ve rated 2 stars for the nice overnight lady if not for the terrible general manager and the roaches. Beware! We aren’t the first ones to find pests here and we probably won’t be the last, as the managers poor attitude towards the situation tells me that she probably won’t be doing much to fix the problem about the roaches because “it’s just...
Read moreI have to be pretty uncomfortable to get on and write a review about a place, but I feel compelled here. I booked my stay at the Hilton Garden Inn and felt great about my reservation. At the airport, I started reading reviews about the place and was in disbelief and already was trying to think of an exit strategy. The only snafu I had was upon our very late checkin, we had been given a regular double bed room. I had called the day before and confirmed an upgrade to a suite. The lady at checkin at the time told me there was nothing she could do, and unfortunately we did get stuck in the smaller room the first night. No big deal, we were exhausted at 1 am anyways. The next morning, I woke up and went downstairs and talked to the new person on duty, and they immediately took care of it and gave us the upgraded suite. They went far and above to take care of us, even giving us free breakfast vouchers for the remainder of our stay. I read some reviews that the place was outdated and what not. Our first room may have been on the other side of needing just some upgraded paint, but our suite was awesome and gave us plenty of space with our 2 young children. The staff was super friendly the whole time, breakfast Buffett was super good, Ordering DoorDash for dinner was more than easy, Pool area was large and gated in and hardly used, hot tub was nice. The cleaning staff did a great job. If you really had to twist my arm to get me to say something bad, it could be that there isn't much around the hotel as far as walking distance wise, but that is what your car is for. Easy access to the highway, 20 minute drive to Busch Gardens, 25 minutes to the aquarium, even a 30 minute drive to the airport in St Pete. 10 minutes north are the premium outlets for shopping. 5 Stars, would stay...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in our most recent and final stay at this hotel. We've stayed here several times while and have been very pleased in the past. Something must have drastically changed in the past few months to have gone so far south. The room was not as clean upon arrival as it has been in the past. I chalked that up to Covid and the fact that housekeeping isn't maintaining he rooms during each stay unless requested. We had a cockroach in our room the first n8ght, unacceptable, but again, the room wasn't that clean. The next morning we got up at 4:00 to go to the hospital, only to find that the coffee maker was broken. There was still water in it from the previous guest so clearly it had never been cleaned. I grabbed my coffee pod and went to the lobby. I apparently woke the gentleman at the front desk. I asked about the coffee maker, which had a closed for Covid sign on it. He said if I wanted coffee, I would have to go to the gas station. So let me get this straight, I get to pay for a room with a broken coffee maker, then look at a closed coffee maker because we're afraid of germs that someone is going to get at 4:00 in the morning, and I'm told to go to the gas station? Later that day, I called to extend an additional night because surgery took longer than expected. I mentioned about the coffee maker to the woman at the front desk, who was kind enough to tell me that I just don't know how to use it. Despite me telling her we had stayed there'd 5 other times, and used the coffee maker every time, and that there was water left in the tank from the previous guest, she said she wouldn't replace it, but offered to have someone come to the room and show me how to use it. If I had the option to give fractional stars on this review, this visit would get a 1/2 star, and that would...
