Contessa Resort — Hotel in Town of Bolton

#1- I made a point to call the Contessa office early in the day to make sure someone would be available for a late check-in (after 10pm). As I was trying to explain to Bob what time I would be arriving, he just kept talking over me saying “any time after 2, any time after 2”. Ok fine. We arrived around 10:40pm. Nobody was in the office. There was a buzzer and a note that said to press buzzer, and if no response to call the phone #. We buzzed several times- no response. Then, over the next hour tried calling the phone #. After several times calling, (about 1 hour and 15 minutes after we arrived) Bob finally answered his phone. We did not get into the room until 1 and ½ hours after arriving. So much for any time after 2. #2- After getting to sleep around 1 am, I was awoken by the sound of people laughing, talking very loudly, banging things, and moving furniture at 3:40 am. It sounded like a (lets go back to the room after the bars close) party. I waited about ½ hour and then called Bob to ask him if he could do something. He said he would check it out. The noise didn’t stop until 5am. #3-In the morning we realized that there were people above us, which was surprising because we rented a 2 unit (side by side) cabin (#11 on their website). The photo shows 2 units with, NOTHING above them. Apparently we were in a 4 unit building (2 on top of 2), with the other 3 units being people who were all together (a wedding party). We would absolutely NOT have booked anything with people above us! #4- My husband and I went to speak to Bob in the morning. Right from the beginning he seemed annoyed. I asked him if he went down to our cabin when I called. He said he had, but I didn’t see him. According to him he went to unit 9 and didn’t see anyone. He kept asking me if it was unit 9. I said I had no idea what the number is because there was only supposed to be one other unit attached to ours and there were 3. I pointed out that we weren’t in the right room according to the picture on the website. He said he didn’t know what was on the website. Really?? Come on. That’s just ridiculous. I asked him to move us to another room or refund our money. He laughed and said “I’m not giving you any money back”. At that point I called him a liar. He told me to get off of his property. I told him I would only leave if he gave me my money back. The next and last thing he said to me was “you’re a real ( insert VULGAR NAME FOR FEMALE GENITALIA )”. So… if you want to wait an hour and a half to get into your room, get a different room from what you booked, not get any sleep, be LIED to, and called VULGAR names, this is the place for you! Absolutely beautiful place...too bad the owner is a jerk! We rented a place for a weekend to celebrate our upcoming nuptials! We were out on the porch drinking (and all well within drinking age) and he came by and told us that only 10 people were allowed (which we were never told) and that there was no drinking on site (again, not told) and that the police would be called on us if we didn't leave. It could have ruined our whole weekend, but instead we made the best of it at a place nearby. We still paid, though, because we knew this was the sort of man who might bring on legal charges and, honestly, he's not worth that much. Seriously, though, run. Far away. This man is incredibly unreasonable.

To those who have recently addressed this post...we gave this man NOTHING BUT RESPECT. We listened to his statements about what was allowed. He told us how many cars to park, and so we carpooled to work with his demands. It was the instant that we were on the porch sitting around and enjoying ourselves that he came up and started his tirade. Again, if we had known that there was no drinking on the porch, or drinking at all (yeah, we moved indoors and then he came by and banged on the door, giving us trouble about being inside drinking too) we would have not booked. We addressed this when it was booked. We asked about drinking there, mentioned that it was a bachelor party, and we discussed with him any issues. Then he came by, changed his mind about their drinking policy, and said that there were too many people and we needed to leave. And leave we did.....this guy, honestly, can go from calm to incredibly irrational quickly. Saying that you should just treat him with respect and he'll be fine is not addressing the actual problem of his huge temper. I've seen MANY people complaining about his service in the past. Since some of these reviews are more recent, I hope that he has improved himself....I doubt it, though. It's bad for business.

This was a bachelor/bachelorette party, and we definitely could have had the whole thing ruined by this guy's unreasonable demands that came out of nowhere. But luckily we have family that live in Ticonderoga that could help us out and give us a place to sleep for the night.

I'm not the type of person that complains about every business I go to. I'm not an unreasonable person...I give businesses the benefit of the doubt if I think I am in the wrong or that I'm asking for something above and beyond the scope of services allowed. This was not that situation.

There are better places, and better people to rent from, in...

My boyfriend and I booked a 6 night vacation in lake george. We stayed at the same hotel we did on our last trip. Management had changed since then so our stay wasn't as accommodating as last time, sadly. However, we decided to extend our trip and to stay one more night but everywhere in town was booked for labor day weekend. I decided to search for places in Bolton Landing, a town over from lake george. I found Contessa Resort online and booked a room for an incredibly affordable and low price. They didn't jack the price up for the holiday like every other hotel was doing. They also gave us an early check-in knowing we had to be out of our other hotel and had nowhere to go. The staff were so incredibly welcoming and accommodating. I want to give a special shout out to Christina, the daughter of the owner, Captain Bob. She gave me her phone number and told me not to hesitate at all to reach out if we needed anything. Managers of surrounding hotels could learn a thing or two from her. She went out of her way to make our one night stay memorable and peaceful. That is how hospitality should be done. They also offer free kayaks/paddle boats/fishing gear etc. Other places are charging 20 and upward for an hour of kayaking, which is disappointing and ridiculous. The location of Contessa is beautiful! Incredible lake views! The room we stayed in was clean and offered a wet bar, A/C, heater if needed, full sized fridge, queen size bed and a Roku tv system. I felt very much at home staying at Contessa. My only regret is that we didn't find this place sooner. We'll be booking our trip here for next year in one of their bigger units. I highly recommend checking Contessa Resort out if you ever travel up to lake george. That one night turned out to be one of my favorite days while up there.
