This place elevates the Lake George dining scene in a number of ways. The décor is modern and rustic at the same time, while overall comfortable and done to a standard that did not exist on the Lake until now. The people behind this also run Dutch Kills, which is renowned as one of the best cocktail bars in not just NYC, but the entire world. The same folks run an ice company in the City, which is to the benefit of the world class cocktails they serve at Dutch Kills and now at The Gem right here in Bolton Landing. If you are serious about your cocktails, you know how important quality ice is. The mixologists at the Gem will make you one of their specialty menu offerings or a custom creation based on whatever liquors or flavors you like. The food is also excellent. They recently added smoked chicken wings to the menu and they are the best wings in the Capitol Region and its not even close, for me taking the crown from Harvey's in Saratoga Springs. The BBQ and sides are also very well done, with that buttery fatty brisket fans of Austin, TX long for and great sides to accompany the platters. While the meat on the brisket was not quite as tender as I like it and the smoke ring was rather thin (both likely attributable to not enough time on the smoker), the fat and flavor was there and overall it was well done. So in summary start with cocktails and wings but based on my experience you really...
Read moreThe GEM is an absolute gem when it comes to barbecue and craft cocktails! My recent visit left me thoroughly impressed with the quality of food and the creativity behind their drinks.
First and foremost, let's talk about the barbecue. The GEM knows how to smoke and grill to perfection. Their barbecue offerings are nothing short of excellent. Whether you're a fan of ribs, brisket, pulled pork, or chicken, you're in for a treat. The meats were tender, juicy, and packed with smoky flavor along with their fantastic sauces. The sides were also terrific! From creamy mac and cheese to crispy coleslaw, each side dish was a delightful accompaniment to the main event.
When it comes to craft cocktails, The GEM doesn't disappoint. Unique and refreshing drinks that perfectly complement the barbecue experience. The GEM's drink menu has something for everyone. It's the kind of place where you can sip on a well-crafted cocktail while enjoying the smoky aroma of barbecue in the air.
One piece of advice for anyone planning a visit to The GEM: come hungry or be prepared to take home a doggy bag. The portions are generous, and the flavors are so enticing that it's easy to overindulge. Sharing a platter with friends or family is a great way to sample a variety of dishes, but don't be surprised if you end up with leftovers. Fortunately, barbecue leftovers from The GEM are something to...
Read moreI'll start by saying our waitress was very polite and this poor review has nothing to do with her.
The type of ice they use for their drinks is the best but they fill the cup so full of ice that you basically have a shot's worth of liquid for a $16 specialty cocktail. My friend spilled a "FULL" drink and it didn't even make it across the table because there was so little in it due to how much ice.
The Georgia Mustard wings were VERY good and the only reason I'm giving a 2 star review instead of a 1 star. Very flavorful and the right amount of sauce.
I had their chicken sandwich that had no flavor I almost thought I had COVID. It was so bland and boring that you would have had a better experience with a microwavable frozen sandwich from the store. I truly don't understand these other reviews saying it's amazing. Popeyes does a better job. And the side of fries I got was definitely from frozen - again no flavor, not even salt and dry dry dry.
The deserts were okay the sticky pudding was the better option over the almond tiramisu. The tiramisu had a waxy mouthfeel and WAY too much amaretto.
If the prices were half of what they charge I would be more understanding.
This hidden Gem can...
