The Gold Eagle Cabins — Hotel in Town of Lake George

Well what can I say we have just come back after an amazing 17nights in lake george at the gold eagle and all I can say is, it's a pity we live in Ireland and can't return every summer! First of all our hosts Mary and paul were brilliant. Nothing was ever a problem for them and they went over and beyond for us, to even leaving us to the train station on our last day. Thank you paul! I just want to say the place is exactly what you see on their website, no hidden surprises. Yes the cabins are on a hill but it was no surprise by their website. Did their cabins have a smell when you first arrived? Yes they did but that is only because it's warm and the cabins are literally made on wood. The facilities are brilliant. The pool was so well maintained by paul. Everyday he was out cleaning it. Was there leaves and insects at times in the water? Absolutely! but it doesn't take a genius to look around them and realise that they are in a woodland with beautiful trees all around them, which also brings little critters. The pool was a godsend and the sun shone on it all day till about 6/7pm when the sun went behind the trees. Also there was a basket ball net and little play swings and slide beside the pool. There was so many places for the children to play. They even had a volley ball net and ping pong table down beside their home. Which especially my youngest used a lot when she made friends with paul and Mary's grand daughters. The rooms were spotless and had everything we needed. We cooked most days and even had to nip down to ask for a tin opener which was given straight away. Anytime we needed toilet roll, clean towels paul was up straight away. Our beds were changed two times when we were there which is perfect. I don't know anyone who would change their beds everyday anyway, so it was no problem. As I said, paul and Mary were always on hand if we needed it. I blew the sockets one night with my travel adapter, next morning paul was up and sorted it. Our drawer in the kitchen stuck and straight away paul was up to fix it. The location is great. We didn't have a car so the local tram was great but if you do have a car you would literally be in the town within 10mins or less. Looking at all the other resorts, yes some are right on the shore but would be double what we paid for gold eagle. Some are closer to the town but their pools are literally beside the road and I didn't see one other place that had the privacy and seclusion that paul and Mary's cabins had. Overall it was an amazing family holiday, in a beautiful town, in a beautiful cabin with beautiful, kind hosts and I would definitely recommend it to anyone travelling to lake george. My family always plans our yearly Lake George trip. This one made us reconsider. This was our first time spending it in the GOLDEN EAGLE. My aunt booked our stay and she honestly did not look at reviews the way I would have, however now that I came to write one, did not see many and I feel it’s my responsibility to make sure you guys get the real review from me. We rented a two bedroom cabin, about 6 of us stood there. HORRIBLE WIFI, but there is some. They seem to have the main router in the main office, if not near you’re screwed. We also had other family members who rented in another spot because this one did not accept animals, which is understandable but once they came to visit us, they said we could not have any COMPANY as per rules “NO GUEST”. I posted a rules regulation form so you will be advised of the MANY RULES because my aunt was not informed Upon booking. The pool was full of insects. One of the filters broke. The cabin was very old fashion and in need of a lot of TLC! My mother rented out another cabin because she likes her privacy and they left the day before us. I watched the lady and her husband go in for about 10 mins and did not even walk out with the bed sheets. Which to me made me assume they don’t really clean. The cabin we stood in had many ants crawling all over the place and when we slept I was VERY ITCHING, hence that now it think I know why “disgusting :(.” Of course being on vacation you stay up and spend time with family. The owners EVEN HAD A PROBLEM WITH THAT. He came to the cabin requesting for us to go inside after 11:00pm ... I was so taken back by this experience that I had to leave a review and share my feelings so nobody has to go through what we went through.
