We were headed for an overnight stay near Bryce Canyon without having mad reservations. It was late in the day so we looked for rooms with immediate availability. Cell phone signal was spotty and we were getting a little nervous. Luckily we found River Stone Inn and Gallery. Miriam answered the phone to take our reservation and was so kind an patient. Even her voice was relaxing. We didn't arrive until 9:00 p.m. Miriam was preparing the next day's breakfast but took time to acquaint us with the beautiful inn. The room was beautifully appointed and cozy as can be. We had chosen the "Tropic" room. It is on the main floor and has it's own private bath with a beautiful river stone shower enclosure. Once we were settled we stepped outside to check out the night sky. Tropic, Ut has very low light pollution and we were able to see a sky full of stars including the Milky Way!The bed was very comfortable and we slept soundly. We had arranged for a 7:30 breakfast time to be served on a tray in our room. Miriam had prepared a delicious vegetable quiche (I am vegetarian). Before leaving we spent some time in the front room gallery checking out the art work and hand crafted gifts. It is obvious that Miriam's parents, Clay and Rebecca Wagstaff, are talented artists. On top of that the house is handsomely decorated and even looks great from the outside. We are so happy we stumbled upon River Stone Inn and Gallery and we would definitely stay here...
Read moreMy wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at River Stone Inn & Gallery. The hosts, Clay and Rebecca, were very kind and personable. They both worked hard to make sure our stay was most pleasant and comfortable. The very delicious breakfast was completely made from scratch using high quality ingredients. Each room is private with a very unique touch in its decor. We stayed in the Heritage Room which has a nice, attached sitting or sleeping room off to the side. Each room has its own private bathroom. The B&B also has a very nice gallery with a variety of locally made gifts and original paintings by well-known Utah artists. The location of River Stone Inn & Gallery is in a most excellent location near a number of wonderful parks of recreation including: Bryce Canyon, Kodachrome Basin, Zions National Park and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Clay and Rebecca have lived in Tropic for many years. They have a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding recreational areas. We are planning on coming again so our kids can stay...
Read moreWe flew to SLC and drove the 4 hrs. or so down to Tropic to visit the parks in the area. The stay at River Stone's Studio was excellent. The breakfast experience was a lot of fun, nutritious, filling and different each day. The room is a stand alone building that has a loft located up a ladder. It is spacious and has its own stand alone heater.
The owners were gracious and enjoyable to hang around with. They are talented artists who also have homemade soaps available for sale. They are the soaps in the bathroom in your room, as well.
Tropic is a small town with a few restaurants to choose from. We enjoyed The Pizza Place during a snow squall. We don't see that kind of weather in west TX. We also went to the Stone Hearth Grill that was fantastic, but pricey. Stone Hearth is worth it. We even saw some deer on the one mile backroad to get there.
If we go back to Bryce Canyon, Kodachrome or Escalante, we will ask to stay with Clay and...
