Great Innkeepers, Lovely Stay!
Every excellent stay begins with the innkeepers’ philosophy and capability. That’s why Addy’s Villas consistently rates in the “wonderful” category.
From the moment we first made phone contact with Michael of Addy’s Villas a year ago, asking if he might have room for us to stay in a villa over several months while we watched our house in Nokomis being completed, we were amazed by the hospitality and kindness of the owners (Michael and Chuck). They were understanding when our completion date kept sliding out into the future. Finally, we arrived May 30, 2023 for the final months of the build. Michael graciously took me grocery shopping at Publix the first day, as our car had not yet arrived.
Our first month in the 2-bedroom Hibiscus Villa #11 was comfortable and delightful. I so enjoyed the large, well equipped kitchen with maple cabinets, black granite countertops and a stove that heated up instantly, and was fantastic to cook on! All the cooking tools had been sanitized and wrapped. Everything I needed to cook was provided for. There is even a dishwasher.
The villa was kept immaculately, with nice sheets and towels, and a lovely color scheme, with sea and bird related art on the walls. The curvaceous cane and rattan settees give us an old Florida vibe, but the complex has strong Wi-Fi and cable TV on a modern Insignia TV.
Old Florida…the first 3 buildings were constructed in the 1950’s by Beacom’s Motor Lodge. They built out the total of 16 single story units and then Addy and Mike operated it for many years. Around 2008 an Ohio firm renovated cabinets, kitchens and bathrooms and put in a pool. The current owners have lived on site and managed it since late 2014. They do a really good job making sure guests are comfortable and all maintenance is on point.
Hurricane Ian downed many trees and the fences. Reroofing is under way now in summer, 2023, after the initial urgent removal and restoration work was done. The complex sees regular 3x weekly pool service, mowing of the ample lawns, fumigation and other services. The security here is excellent, with robust steel doors and numeric code locks.
The freshwater pool is heated, and there is ample space on the 2.5 acre site for lounging, sunbathing, barbecuing, picnicking, walking and parking. High quality commercial Speed Queen laundry is available at no charge in the front building for guests. Maggie and Mar also on site are quick to respond to guests’ needs.
The location is very close to shops in several directions, and it is a short 1.5 mile drive, scooter or bike ride to gorgeous Nokomis Beach, where we have been going each morning for walks.
It’s also within a mile or two of excellent seafood restaurants, like Pop’s Sunset Grill, Casey Key Fish House, Captain Eddie’s, and Nokomo’s Sunset Hut. The Italian and French restaurants of historic Venice, with its Saturday farmers’ market, sit 5 miles southwest.
We will stay the rest of the summer in cottage #9, with garage, washer/dryer and front lanai. All of our hopes and expectations for a comfortable stay at Addy’s Villas have already...

Read moreOur experience at Addy’s was wonderful!
We planned a small, three night stay to celebrate our anniversary. A stress free mini vacation was exactly what we needed and Addy’s was the perfect place to getaway to.
To begin, booking was seamless (and cheaper!) directly through their website. When we pulled up, it looked exactly like it did in the advertisements. Check-in was a breeze. The owners were on vacation at the time that we stayed, so George assisted and he is an absolute gem of a human. He was kind, helpful, knowledgeable about the area, and attentive to our needs. He recommended delicious area restaurants and attractions nearby.
When we walked into the room, it was spotless. We have stayed in several hotels since Covid began and I have always brought my own Lysol and Clorox wipes to do my own cleaning and disinfecting prior to settling in the room. After reading the Covid protocols at Addy’s and seeing the room, I felt at ease and put the wipes away. All of the dishes, the silverware, and even the coffee maker were individually wrapped after being cleaned. The attention to detail in the living room, bathroom, and bedroom matched as well. They even included hand sanitizer for our protection.
The accommodations were very spacious and felt just like home. (In fact, my husband remarked how similar the feel was to our prior residence.) It has that open, relaxed, old Florida feel to it. The bed was comfortable with a great selection of pillows and the bathroom had the best water pressure I’ve EVER had the pleasure of experiencing. I don’t know if they use a water softener, but the water was not hard like expected in Florida. Outside of the room, there was a cute setup of chairs and table that you can enjoy a morning cup of coffee at. They even had succulents planted in the planter which reminded me of home.
The property was laid out nicely, the pool was clean and appealing (although I forgot my bathing suit at home so I didn’t use get to jump in), and they RECYCLE!!! Seriously, thank you sooo much— enough places do NOT do this and it’s beautiful to see.
Our only hiccup was the tv stopped working halfway through the stay. Thankfully the internet was super fast and we were able to stream via laptop and iPad so it was practically a non-issue.
This place is so conveniently located off of US41. We were close to beaches, restaurants (with plenty of vegan/vegetarian/gluten free options), the Legacy Trail and other local attractions.
If I could offer recommendations, it would be to add some throw blankets in the living room and a bike rack outside but overall, the place is perfection. An added bonus? The pride flag on the office door. People who support people I love are the type of people I want to support.
Thanks to all the folks at Addy’s for a great stay! We...
