The owner greeted myself, and a guest that was in line before me. Explained to us the entire concept and venue. He was really excited and super friendly in describing how the whole process works. I'm a pro and knew what I wanted already, so the patron in front of me let me go ahead.
Awesome spot for really fresh fish and ingredients. I've been driving by this place for a few months now, and finally had the time to stop in and grab a bowl. Start with your base: white rice, brown and rice, or mixed greens - or in my case, a little bit of brown, a little bit of greens! Then a whopping three proteins! I took the owners recommendation, and went with the Ahi Tuna for all three of my scoops, and they toss it in the sauces of your choosing! I chose the slightly spicy fire habanero and the traditional poke! Both really incredibly delicious. Then you get your choice of toppings: I chose raw cucumbers, pickled ginger, seaweed, salad, mango, edamame, pickled cucumbers/radishes and jalapeños for a little kick. All incredibly well put together, incredibly fresh, and so delicious! Chose the fire cilantro, vegan dressing topper, and a little bit of spicy mayo on the side just for some fun. And walked out of there for $16.06 with tax, for an awesome dinner!
I'll pack up the bag, grab the chopsticks and headed out for one of the best Poké bowls I've had in a really long time. If you're in Venice, and want fresh poke, stop in Island, Fin poke and grab...
Read moreI’m a very big proponent of poke bowls and authentic tasting food. I’ve been here multiple times, and haven’t been very impressed. No eel sauce to mix in with the ponzu sauce. This is one of the classic sauces that is used in poke bowls and is a must for regular poke bowl people. The rice has a very strong vinegar taste to it, not authentic sushi rice whatsoever. they don’t offer cooked salmon, which is a big thing for many people, including my wife which doesn’t like to eat raw fish. All of the other poke bowl based restaurants/ fast food offer cooked food, which is really important. Slap a nice heavy price tag on a regular size bowl, 22$ for a standard portion with add ons for 2$ which should be included like masago. And the imitation crap- surimi. The masago was Absolutley disgusting, not fresh and had a weird taste to it. Avocado is understood as an up charge. This place really needs a vendor change, restructuring in pricing and fix the menu that’s almost impossible to easily chose what you want. And to add to that, employee who helped me, was very quick, stale, not friendly and showed no empathy for not having the basic things that people request...
Read moreMy wife's been hounding me to go here for the Dole Whip but when she described Poke (pronounced Po-Kay not Pokey) I thought it sounded good. I normally won't eat cold rice meals with raw fish (Ahi) however I gave it a chance. I'm glad I did and can't wait to return. There was a generous amount of Ahi, very fresh veggies; corn, edamame, plus marinated onions and cukes which were incredible! I don't like overly spiced food so was hesitant to order the "spicy" sauce, which was my only mistake. I opted for the "avocado" sauce which was delicious, but my wife got the "spicy" sauce on her chicken and it was incredible! The "spicy" added so much more flavor to everything. But for someone who can't eat spicy foods, the avocado sauce was still quite delicious. We've got a coupon that we forgot to bring, so now have an excuse to go back soon! Oh, and I can't forget to compliment the preparer! He was a young fellow who couldn't have been more polite and helpful, letting us try some of the ingredients and sauces as he prepared the meal. We usually don't tip counter service pickups, but this young...
