After staying at a really nice, inexpensive Courtyard Hotel in Minneapolis, I was extremely disappointed with my experience at the Detroit Warren Courtyard. The rooms where higher priced and when I booked I was reticent to do more than a night because the reviews were not good but I was having trouble finding any hotels in the area that did, so I went with Courtyard based on my previous experience. When we entered the room a disgusting, musty smell greeted us and the space matched the smell, dated and ugly. Not sure if it is because I had a service dog and let them know I was with my elderly mom (who is not disabled), but they placed in a wheel chair accessible room that had grab bars everywhere and a geriatric seat in the shower I wouldn't have touched with a ten foot pole. The room was very institutional and the tile, oh boy, it was seriously 50 years old minimum. I complained and was given another room across the hall, which still had a bit of that a musty smell but not as bad, and the room was much more updated, though still a few years old, closer to 20 than 50. I didn't;t notice at first but there was mold growing in the toilet, which wouldn't flush, but front desk was quick to send someone to clean it out, wow. The saving grace of the stay was the staff, and I did love the little patios the courtyard rooms had, it was nice to sit outside and have a glass of wine. The grounds themselves were deteriorating a bit though and they were not well maintained, the grass was recently cut and bits of it were all over the outside furniture and I saw unwatered plants and cobwebs everywhere. I was in town to see a doctor and sincere I knew I needed a few more days to get an ultrasound, I booked more nights but was disappointed to find them raise the price of the room each time. In fact, I would have stayed one more night but when they want to raise the room rate up to $200, which was twice what I paid for a totally amazing room in Minneapolis, I just left and will not stay at a Courtyard again as a result. Had they told me adding rooms might cause an increase in prices I may have considered getting a block of days but they failed to mention it to me. Anyhow, another nice thing was having a Starbucks on the premises, weird though, the coffees are out in front of the counters here, leading me to believe they were self serve if not a specialty item. It felt a little awkward when front desk noticed me pour myself a coffee then flagged me over to pay for it, kind of felt like I was stealing when I never intended to lol. Oh well, you win some you lose some.

I came to this hotel for a family vacation with my children. We got there and I was charged $350 for a $180 stay so that bored me. I work for hotels as well and never seen anybody charged that much. The first room I had smelled like mold and the pull out matter had brown stains all over it and there was no way in hell I was letting my children sleep on that. So I went to check out the front desk lady didn’t say sorry or anything or really acknowledge the issue when I showed her the pictures. She just offered another room I took the other room because I wasn’t about to ride around at 12am looking for new hotels with my four daughters. The 2nd room smelled like mold as well and the tv didn’t work. So I checked my kids out as soon as I woke up. I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels and I worked for Hilton, Marriott, Holiday, Comfort Inn, Staybridge before and there’s no way I would of treated my guest like that or put somebody in a room that wasn’t pre-checked by the housekeeping manager. With the condition of that mattress, I would have refunded the guest their money back because it’s unacceptable and there’s no excuse for this. This isn’t Marriott standard I know for a FACT they’re better than this because I’ve worked for them and I know. This makes Marriott brand look really bad. I’ll never stay here again and I’ll make sure everybody I know doesn’t either.

I had such a wonderful stay at the Courtyard Marriott Detroit Warren. From the moment I walked in, the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed—their kindness and attentiveness stood out and set the tone for the whole visit. Every interaction was marked by warmth and hospitality, which made the experience feel more personal and memorable. The food was another highlight. Every meal was thoughtfully prepared, delicious, and exceeded expectations—definitely not what you’d expect from your typical hotel dining experience. It truly felt like the team cared about both presentation and flavor. All in all, the combination of exceptional service and amazing food made this stay special. I’ll absolutely be returning the next time I’m in the area.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but improvement is needed. Started out-hotel didn’t have our reservation. The excuse was, we booked through a third party. Ok. Instead of a double bed we ended up with a single bed and a “pull out couch“. The “pull out bed” was Incredibly out of level, Making it impossible to sleep on. However, before I got the opportunity to NOT sleep on the pull out bed, I needed to put the sheets on it. I was unable to find the sheets in the room. OK, no problem. I went down to the front desk and the attendant told me the sheets should be in the room somewhere. So, I went back to find them. None were present. So then I had the exciting opportunity to go back to the front desk and ask for The bedding again. That was fairly frustrating. However, things happen. I wasn’t too upset.

We went to the pool. There was a pool attendant checking to make sure each visitor to the pool was a guest. She did not seem happy about her job, But no matter we went into thr pool area with out issue. Hot tub was roped off with a small paper size sign. My son, a child, did not see the sign, and jumped in. The attendant came over and told us “he should take a shower because the pool had a crack in the foundation and sewage was leaking in”. Unbeknownst to the attendant, i inspect pools…. there was no crack in foundation. Furthermore, it is highly unlikely that a cracked pool would result in sewage waste entering the pool unless the pool was built on top of waste lines was cracked, and the wastelines were cracked and leaking, also. OR, they accidentally plumbed waste lines into the spa. Both of these scenarios are HIGHLY unlikely. Why didn’t the attendant tell us about the feces in the spa? Why wasn’t it heavily taped off with caution tape? Do both pools use the same water? If so, WHY IS THE POOL OPEN? Do I need to worry about E. coli, shigellosis, typhoid fever, salmonella, and cholera???

I get it, the kid shouldn’t have jumped in a pool that was inconspicuously marked as restricted, but cmon. Then when it was mentioned to front desk we got a different story entirely about the pool. At this point, luckily, no one has gotten sick. However, we didn’t use the pool the rest of the visit because there may or may not be seewge leaking into it. (I suspect somone pooped in the pool and none of the staff knew what to do). The shower faucet leaked, the staff made no efforts to to acquire us a double bed room (we were there for 4 or 5 nights), the fire alarm went off flooding some of the rooms, it was an incredibly ROUGH STAY. I have come to expect the best from Mariott, that’s why we choose them. I hope they can make some improvements. On a positive note the coffee, the coffee in the...

DO NOT STAY HERE—-Let’s start off from the top. Friday I used the Marriott application on my iPhone and requested a early checkin, I also requested extra towels in my room and I also requested my room be cleaned everyday because I know they only do that by request. The Marriott application notified me that my early check in was granted and that they would have extra towels for me. At check in I got to the property at around 1130am I spoke to a lady at the counter without checking anything in the computer she said checkin is not til 3pm. I was like I understand but I talked to someone on the application and they said it was ok. She walked and the back to verify and another lady came out and said she would help me, the rest of the check in went smooth. When I got to my room, no extra towels as requested, check the bathroom the toilet in the bathroom sucks, it made for a 4 year old it’s pretty much sitting in the ground. When I woke up the next day I requested towels again and house keeping again, I returned Saturday night no towels no cleaning. Sunday morning this is when I was just fed up, I called at 1030am requested a cleaning and more towels, also the toilet was not flushing properly asst manager lee I believe her name was said she will notify maintenance and get house keeping up to me. 1 hour went by we called again she said she would check on my request. Now by 1230 I was already running late to go meet family, I walked down to the lobby to see a manager. I met with the asst manager lee again she said she will call maintenance to see where they are, housekeeping lady was sitting in lobby, she asked me what did I need. I told her I requested towels for two days, she said stay here I will go and get them for you. House keeping came back with towels so I went back up to my room to meet maintenance, they finally came up and fixed the problem. As I am leaving my room house keeping was next door, I asked her if she was cleaning my room next, she said no I am not on the list. I told her I requested cleaning for two days now, she said it was not her problem and to call the office. I got into my vehicle called the hotel and spoke to asst manager lee, she made up some story that I was on the list and it’s a different housekeeper and she will aside my room gets cleaned. She said they are short staff and doing the best they can. So we went out Sunday all day return to my room around 930pm and guess what THE ROOM WAS NEVER CLEANED. I have been staying...
