My husband and I stayed one night on our way home from Arkansas this month. I always prefer locally owned BnB’s over chain hotels, so I was very excited to find the English Merchant’s Inn while I was searching for a place to stay for the night. Howard was extremely accommodating and even sent me a personal message as soon as my reservation was booked, letting me know about the check in times and breakfast information. He kept in contact while we were traveling to ensure that someone would be at the Inn to welcome us when we arrived. The house is stunningly beautiful, every room is uniquely and thoughtfully decorated and feels so inviting. Our room on the second floor was perfectly comfortable, and had everything we needed, including water, glasses, towels, ice, and soaps. Howard showed us around to the “common area” which offered an ice maker, microwave/mini fridge, and a large TV with board games nearby. We thought this was a wonderful accommodation, and really made us feel like we were staying with family. My husband has back problems and often has a difficult time sleeping on hotel beds, but he commented that the bed in our room was the most comfortable bed he has ever slept on! Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and certainly plan on returning the next time we are in the area. If you are looking for a welcoming, quaint, unique, and memorable place to stay while in Waxahachie, the English Merchant’s Inn is the best choice you could make! I would rate 10...
Read moreI had to travel to Waxahachie on business and really didn't want to stay in a chain hotel. Luckily I found this gem on TripAdvisor and was certainly glad I made the extra effort. Proprietor Howard Baskin and his wife have created something extraordinary here in the middle of this historic little south Dallas suburb. In short, it's like staying in a museum. If you're adventurous and have a penchant for something unique this is for you. Mr. Baskin is super friendly - what I would call a gentleman and a scholar. He'll not only welcome you to your quarters, which is like going back in time, but he'll gladly delight you with the history of the building and the town. I sprung for the suite, which was super spacious and had everything I needed. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable and I can't recall the last time I slept so well. In the morning I went to Rhino Coffee for breakfast, which is included in the price of lodging. The coffee and food were delicious. I recommend the Hash Benedict. Then knock yourself out exploring historic downtown Waxahachie and touring the historic homes in the...
Read moreIt is always my greatest pleasure to find a bed & breakfast close to home that is so exquisite. This particular southern style home, with a front porch that is to die for, is decorated in a warm and friendly old English style that is completely charming.
The inn keepers, Mary and Howard, are very friendly and accommodating. We had to drive down late due to my work schedule and they had a key waiting for us, along with chilled wine. Mary even left us a letter with recommendations for local food and drinks for dinner.
Our room (number 3) was very quiet, with a large bathroom (and a claw footed bathtub!) and a nice, comfy bed. Definitely appreciated because we needed a good night's sleep!
They served a delicious breakfast and were always ensuring that we were well taken care of. The waffle was a fabulously flakey pastry crust with cheese and bacon and we had berries with sweet cream. Now that's my kind of breakfast!
We came down from Dallas for our 8 year wedding anniversary, but will definitely come back for any excuse we can think of! Highly recommended - don't miss this...
