I travelled to Texas to catch up with an old friend and do some sight seeing while going to some of the "well known" BBQ places we have seen on TV. Decided to look up a local BBQ spot to get some dinner after having flown in to Dallas and on our way to Waco. Fingers to the Bone came up on our web search as the closest to where we were at so we decided to give it a try.
The place is no frills and you may even drive by without realizing it is there. When you walk in you see that it's kind of bare bones inside (like good BBQ joints are) and you get a sense that you may have stumbled upon a gem. Man, did we ever!
First, the owners/staff were extremely friendly and a pleasure to spend some time with. The conversation was warm and welcoming. I opted for the three meat platter with green beans and pintos (with meat), and went with the spicy sauce which they ladled on top of the meats. The meats that I got were: brisket, ribs, and smoked sausage (links).
The Green beans had just enough bit of seasoning to dress them up, but not too much where it overpowered. They were awesome! The pintos had a good basic taste and were a good complement to my first Texas BBQ meal. The brisket slices were from the flat and were not dry...as some can be. There was a respectable smoke ring and the smoke flavor was pretty mild...I suspect that is because of the oak used. I think most places either nail brisket...or fail brisket. This place certainly nailed it. The smoked sausage was good; however, it paled in comparison to what was the best part of the platter for me and that was the ribs. I'll be dreaming of those ribs! Perfect texture, not too try, not too wet, good smoke and char...pulled off the bone perfectly. Amazing ribs! The spicy sauce is the "icing on the cake" that sealed the deal. It does have some heat...but finishes with a sweet.
I would definitely recommend this place. When you are driving through the neighborhood to get there and you pull up unsure whether you are at the right place or not...trust me, you are!!! Go for it!.
I would say this is a solid 4.5, out of 5, for BBQ and the staff we talked and spent time with are what...
Read moreWe’ve recently moved out here and we’ve been looking for bbq places that are close to our favorites in Arlington. The first time we went, the food was okay but nothing to complain about. We did decide that we would only go when we don’t feel like making our own. Well we wanted some for Father’s Day but he was limited to meat that day, which I can understand with it being Father’s Day. We decided to try the following week, which I soon would regret. I ordered a pound of chopped and sliced brisket plus a bologna sandwich. We spent $80 on food. When I walked in to pick up, I was greeted by a young man screaming, we’ll be with you in just a second, which wasn’t a big deal until I was grabbing my food from the young man that a lady stood up and came up to me asking can I help you. This lady had made eye contact with me and sat across from me the whole time and never acknowledged me. Now back to the $80 worth of food because this is the main reason we will not be back. The brisket was so dry that it was so hard to eat. You could look at it and tell that he is serving the cheapest brisket, it was so disappointing. The sliced brisket was tossed because it was unimaginably tough to eat even with bbq sauce. The macaroni and cheese was not good because the noodles were overcooked. My bologna sandwich was okay but it wasn’t like our previous experience and it was the thinnest slice. This place is inconsistent in many ways between the food he chooses to cook that day to the taste...
Read moreStopped by and ordered a chopped sandwich and a rib sandwich with some beans and fried okra. It was ok. Not great but simply ok. The beans tasted like out of a can. Too sweet. The fried okra was ok. The chopped sandwich tasted somewhat sour, not normal. I didn’t care for it. The ribs were too tough. The business is disappointing once inside. It does not appear to be a serious kitchen. Things are broken and in bad shape. People seem to just hang out and not there to eat. The buffet station looks atrocious and probably has never been cleaned. I would imagine the kitchen is dirty. The food is grossly over priced. I do not suggest this as an option for bbq. Go at your own risk. There is a gentleman inside that has a 9 mm strapped to his side. Guess he’s fearful of robbery. I didn’t feel comfortable. I didn’t care for the food or the price. I tried it once. Don’t plan to go back. My reviews are honest. Other reviews of this establishment are on par with mine. This trend tells a story that cannot be ignored. Making excuses does not change the reality. Spend some time cleaning the place up and painting a little. Add some lighting. Fix what’s broken. Open the windows. Let the sun inside. Fix your drink dispenser. When things look better customers will be more inclined to spend more and return. It’s not rocket science. Your return is a direct reflection of what you put into it. God bless you too and may the Good Lord shine his ever...
