Action, drama, and suspense are a few of my favorite genres; and I got all of that and more without using the television or the premium wifi I paid for. All I need to do was open both the window in the living area and the one in the bedroom. Then simply listen and watch all the activity going on at the motel next door. - That's honestly NOT the way I wanted to be entertained.
Hilton Hotels will always be one of my favorite chains of hotels. The Hilton app alone helps to solidify that. If you haven't tried it - you should. The cleanliness of the hotel (always minus any of the Embassy Suites) is typically something I can count on or expect as well. However, my room in this particular Home2 was quite dirty. From the seemingly unvacuumed floors, to the debris left inside the pull-out-couch, the cutlery that was used and then placed back into the drawer without being washed ... it all caused me to be a lot less surprised to see a fairly large roach crawling around the bathroom floor.
Speaking of bathrooms -
Only the vanity lights (the ones directly over the sink) worked. The tub drained so slowly that showering would cause it to start to fill up. And as always, they ask "how many guests are staying" but never stock the bathrooms with enough washcloths and towels. That last one is a very minor complaint. Something they should probably change; at least for app users - since we typically use the app to skip the front desk.
Lastly, I suppose it's my fault for not checking the cleanliness or the filter inside the dishwasher. Because upon using it, it filled and then flooded the kitchen floor.
Yes, I know... this is all sounding more like a 2-star review than a 3. Well, also per the usual, the Hilton service I've come to expect was impeccable. I'm talking - very friendly, very attentive, and quick to act. Not to mention that for those like myself that don't/can't eat pork ... you couldn't D---dash yourself a better breakfast.
In the end, I ask myself, would you stay there again? Without question, I would.
It could have been a better stay had I listened to the young lady at the front desk, whom I spoke with, the first night. She offered to and suggested that I change my room. Agreeing with that suggestion would have changed this review from a 3 to at least a 4-star one.
If CALA is held in West Sacramento again next year,...
Read moreThe thing I like about the Hilton app is that one can choose the floor and room location from a floor diagram. The fact that I did not get my digital key even at 9PM as I pulled up to the parking lot was a sign of problems to come. Turned out that my room had not been through the final check and not available. Additionally, none of the 6 rooms on the top floor that were open when I made the reservation were gone by the time I checked in and first heard of the problem. As expected, the person above me which I wanted to avoid was a bit heavy footed, and was waken by the room being made up early in the morning. Such a simple thing would have made the stay a lot better. The room was clean, spacious and well equipped for cooking, though a do not disturb sign and cooking range were strangely absent.2 out of 3 of the pillow cases had stains on them, one with.a faint smell of B.O. Found the sliding bathroom door a bit of a hazard as there were no rails to prevent it being pushed out, and lack of a door stop created a pinch hazard at the door handle. Side table on both sides of the sofa would have been nice, but appreciated the office table and dining table. Free breakfast was nice, especially the sausage biscuits, though I missed eggs. Coffee in the lobby was greatly appreciated. Checking out was greeted to an unexplained $10 a day parking fee and misc taxes which lessened the perceived value of the nightly rate. This was not in an area where a parking fee was appropriate. Additionally, the Hilton is not the only one doing this, but having to go back to your car to put a parking pass is not acceptable, especially in the rain, after a long drive at 9PM. It is also a marker for thieves targeting cars of tourists if left out while sightseeing, and easily forgotten when returning to the hotel and a piece of garbage the customer has to remember to throw out. Location was nice, away from downtown and tourist attractions so did not experience a lot of traffic on the weekend, yet what I wanted to see and stores like Target were only...
Read moreHome2 Suites West Sacramento opened July 2021 and was a quiet and convenient location for my conference at the Convention Center (15 min drive away). Lobby was nicely laid out and staff very friendly and helpful. During our 3-night midweek stay the parking lot was pretty full, so looks like their occupancy is healthy, which is a good sign.
Free breakfast buffet was served (no COVID worries) and included oatmeal, pre-made cheese omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, bacon, make-your-own waffle, yogurt, cereal, etc. Two computers and a printer are also in the lobby. The fitness room is basic with cardio and free weights (Planet Fitness is a block away). Outdoor pool was basic, clean, but too cold to swim.
Our Queen room was comfortable, clean and had plenty of charging ports. The designers crammed against the one wall : full kitchen fridge, sink, counter, dishwasher; then a pull out dining table on wheels; then drawers upon which sat the TV; then the writing desk; and then the open closet. Opposite side was the private bath; sofa bed; and the queen bed. AC was controlled by a window unit and ours worked fine but a bit noisy.
Dogs are allowed and plenty of outdoor areas for them. This was the main reason we chose this place.
The Home2 Suites is a City economic redevelopment project and is situated in a part of West Sacramento that used to be the historic motel row. Unfortunately therefore the immediate area isn’t the nicest for an evening stroll off property (the former Vagabond Inn across from Capitol Bowl was bought by the City and is now a Project Homekey site). But the property itself is well lit, secure and felt safe … so driving in and out with your car should be fine, but walking the dog on the streets at night may not be recommended.
West Sacramento has an ambitious future with the nearby Sutter Health ballpark, waterfront park and new residential development and I’m hoping this Home2 Suites will benefit from the development...
