First, the good news: Harbour House is a relative bargain compared with other options in ultra-expensive Watch Hill. I paid $225 a night when the Ocean House up the road started at around $1,000 per night, peak season. Another plus is the first rate location on Bay Street, a stone's throw from the yachts and lovely ocean views that make Watch Hill a big tourist mecca during summer.||Now, the bad news: The entrance, up a wide, pretty stairway, has been blocked off with buckets of plastic ocean toys, so guests must enter and exit via a "General Store," which is basically a dark, cluttered, dingy souvenir shop in sharp contrast to the lovely shops that are a Watch Hill attraction. When I asked why, the lady at the desk said, "Well, we have lots of single ladies staying here..." I was left to conclude that she might actually be referring to ladies of the night. ||Rooms are small and lack basics such as large mirrors, luggage racks, a vanity table, even a box of Kleenex. The bathroom was tiny with a plastic shower. The view from my room was of a large parking lot. While there is free coffee, there is no free breakfast, and parking space is limited and awkward. The proprietress asked me to move my car several times, a big annoyance at these prices.||I do not think I will be...

Read moreI just referred a friend to the Harbour House, and they advised me of the bad review on here, so I want to set the record straight. We come to Watch Hill every year, and stayed at the Harbour House. If you are looking for something with a bunch of amenities, this isn't it. This place is a hundred year old building, and many people-like myself-enjoy this fact. I don't know anyone that comes to stay in the hotel. Everyone comes here for the shopping and the beach. This isn't a bed and breakfast. There is a coffee/general store attached to the hotel, and Harbour House guests get free coffee from there. The rooms are affordable and they are located in a central location. If my memory serves me right, they are only open for 8 weeks/year. This is a great place, the owner and his staff are...
