I cannot say enough good things about this place. The house is a 143 year old original. The owners purchased it in 2009, and spent six years lovingly restoring the building literally from the ground up. They did not miss any detail. The restoration is meticulous, and at the same time they modernized the experience for their guests. It’s hard to be excited about bathrooms, until you go into this place. Our bathroom was a work of nostalgic art. You just want to stay there all day. Among the other amenities in the house include a bistro where are you can have coffee, water, and snacks all day. The furnishings in the house are exquisitely period and in exceptional taste. The landscaping outside the house is perfectly suited to the age and style of the house, and is expertly maintained. To put it mildly, the place is gorgeous. Inside and out. And then, our hosts Debi and Greg. It takes a certain personality to run a bed and breakfast, and these folks have it all. Customer satisfaction is top of mind, and they attend to every need and every detail. They were gracious and accommodating dietary restrictions. And, to top it off, we had a great personal experience sharing favorite beverages, and we received a personal saxophone concert by Greg. If you are looking for a great place to spend one night or a few days, this is it....
Read moreWe were planning a trip back to MN from NY and we picked Whitehall as a spot to stay because we wanted proximity to the high speed ferry to WI. We also wanted to relax for a few days after a long car trip and explore the sand dunes of western Michigan. How lucky we were to find the Lewis House. ||||It is a 19th C home that has been lovingly restored inside and out. The decor has an attractive minimalist feel with loving attention to the original spirit of the home. Our room had an adjoining "dressing room" and luxurious bathroom. The hosts, Debbie and Greg were available if needed and very helpful. Debbie arranged a separate early breakfast for us to accommodate our ferry schedule. All the breakfasts were quite good - we were so glad not to miss one and we so appreciated her efforts.||||The property overlooks White Lake which connects to Lake Michigan and is walking distance to downtown Whitehall. The grounds are lovely and there is a delightful deck built into the side of the hill overlooking the lake; a lovely spot to read and relax.|| If you are lucky, Greg might even be playing his trombone...
Read moreWe visited the Lewis House in September for family wedding and stayed in the small cottage on the property. We loved it! The deck off the cottage provided a lovely view of the marina and we saw a couple really beautiful sunsets. |The cottage has a full kitchen, bathroom and bedroom with a queen sized bed. We very much appreciated having our own space to head to at the end of the night after the various family events. ||Pros|The inn is within walking distance of downtown Whitehall for shopping and dining. The bed was very comfortable and we appreciated being able to put a fan and screens in the window to enjoy the cool Michigan night air. The cottage is cozy while having enough space to spread out. ||Cons |Honestly, none. Maybe not including breakfast, which we heard from family was delicious, is remotely the only one. ||Definitely recommend visiting! Debi and Greg have lovingly and beautifully restored the property. It's a gem in...
