DO NOT STAY IN A KITCHETTE...My family and I decided to move to Wichita and needed a room for the week. We chose to stay at the Top Hat Motel based on the owner reviews that it had been remodeled and the price was reasonable and it was in a fairly decent area. We decided on a kitchenette apt when we made our reservation. Its was fairly late when we arrived and the outside looked nice so we checked in. My husband got the key and we were informed that kitchenette apt units where down the stairs and behind the motel. When we opened the door the rooms offensive odor of mens locker room urnial assaulted our senses. I told my husband its fine we febreeze it and its probably because we are underground and the air has been off. So we walk in and all of a sudden we are giants the ceiling is so low my husband crouched (not recommended if you are over 6'). Dead bug corpses clung to the ceilings and walls. Kitchen still had food in the stove burner wells. The fridge dripped what I assumed was water on our food. The grim of meals past coated the walls in beautiful splatter patterns. Some were even red. The bathroom was very dirty I mean like 50 homeless men took a shower after 2 months and nobody cleaned the tub for a month and the crust dirt that was left embedded into the plastic. I have a 2 year old and I was scared to take his shoes off for fear of hepatitis. I put him on a blanket we brought with us. The tv was old as sliced bread and the telephone was held together by one wire. The door had been kicked in and was loose on the hinges. We asked for a refund after the first night and was refused. We told Lady about the problems and she kept saying "no its good." The first day we spent there was a problem with the pipes and we had no water for 8 hours and we were not informed. My husband called the lady to tell her we had no water and she said "I know" and hung up. My husband caught a glimpse of the regular rooms and they looked very nice he said and so we asked the lady since we can't have a refund can we trade our kitchette for a regular room. She said "no more rooms." We were there 2 days and no cars in the parking lot and the sign says vacancy. When we talked to her son he got us a refund. The lady inspected our room after we moved our stuff out. She turned the air conditioner off and said that we were supposed to keep it on 67 but nowhere did we sign anything that said that. She then went to the office to get our refund charged us $120 for 2 days in filth. My husband asked for our deposit back and she said " there is always something with you. The door, the water...." She opened the drawer threw $10 at him and said "thats all you are getting." (btw deposit was $25) We are now in a motel that was cheaper and also 500X...
Read moreDO NOT STAY HERE. (Warning: disrespect and deceit.) Owner-manager has a rude temperament irrefutably unfit for customer service. I arrived well within the check-in time and the office was locked and vacant. A sign on the door, written hastily, read something like "NO VACANT ROOMS TONIGHT!! SORRY!" Immediately I sensed something was off because the parking lot was actually mostly EMPTY and did not make it seem as though all rooms were already occupied. Thus, I called the owner-manager, and he said, in an annoyed tone, that all rooms were booked, without giving me any explanation. I thus probed more and mentioned that I had made a reservation. He immediately stated that he didn't get my reservation, which was unbelievable since Expedia had confirmed multiple times that I had it reserved already. Then he said, in a very dismissive way, that I must have mistakenly booked for tomorrow instead of today. I confirmed that this was untrue, and that I actually did book for today, but I asked him anyway to check the reservations for tomorrow to see if I was perhaps accidentally listed there. After posing my question, he did not answer but instead had the audacity to promptly HANG UP! I called him again immediately thereafter and he IGNORED my call even though it was within check-in hours. I strongly suspect that he lied about not having received my reservation. My friends and family have booked with Expedia before but none of them have ever faced the problem of having the hotel deny getting the reservation despite the confirmation from Expedia that it clearly went through already. I suspect the owner may be engaging in unethical practices like overbooking and waiting for no-shows and cancellations in order to keep his rooms full. I SUSPECT this—not asserting it as truth. It's just that the evidence is fully consistent with this explanation.
Please stay away from this place. Boycott this business and go to Executive Inn down the road instead. It's at a similar price point and management is actually not disrespectful and...
Read moreWe booked through a link on Tripadvisor. When the owner of our company followed me in to our lobby the clerk started shaking his head and when he spoke he said we do not have any accessible rooms (she is in a wheelchair). When she explained she can walk short distances, he informed her she would have to sign a waver saying she would not sue for lack of accommodations. She agreed and as he was looking for something she mentioned that she was traveling with her service animal. He said that would not be possible as they do not allow pets. She produced a copy of the law incase he did not understand or know the law. He stated that they still would not allow the animal because they had no way of knowing if he is certified. She explained that there is not national nor Kansas requirement for license, but she did have a certificate which starts with the words "This is produced voluntarily even though there is no requirement to do so." He disappeared for a bit and came back stating that they would allow it this one time, but they were going to charge a nonrefundable fee. She explained that they were not allowed to charge a fee under the law and we would not pay it. He then stated there was nothing he could do so we left. We talked about it in the parking lot and I went back in to ensure that he would not charge our card. He said he would not. I asked for the owner and lawyers names so that we could let them know about the law, at which point he told me they had no lawyer and he would not tell me the owners name. At which point, he told us they were booked up (I guess there was a rush while we were in the parking lot) and therefore we needed to find...
