We are local, but we were part of a wedding next door. Chose to book 2 rooms for our family. The wedding venue had high remarks for the new ownership and cleanliness. I called a couple of months prior to the wedding to reserve 2 adjoining rooms for Saturday night. Never received any confirmation, but it was part of the wedding block reservation. We checked in Saturday afternoon prior to the ceremony. On Sunday morning we received a copy of our bill, which was twice what I was told. I called to inquire about the charges. I was told that the previous owners had the wedding block reserved for two nights and that there was nothing they could do to change it. Despite the fact I called and specifically asked for one night and confirmed over the phone. Our entire wedding party was billed for two nights. The only reasoning/excuse given was that the previous owners made the mistake and that was it. The bride never received confirmation after calling and requesting it several times. Each of us individually calling to reserve rooms for a specific night. But because one employee punched in 2 nights, we all got to pay double. While I understand they would have lost revenue for one night, some type of discount or meeting us halfway…would have been nice. My family of 5 that spent money on a wedding also paid for an empty room that I never reserved. I’ve paid it, but this is about integrity and running a respectable business.
Edit in response: Your statement that all rooms were verified for two nights via individual phone calls, is a blatant lie. I called and reserved 2 adjoining rooms for one night, Saturday 9/18. I live 15 minutes away, I had no reason to rent a room on...
Read moreWhen I had to stop in the middle of the night with a snow storm approaching, they were very polite and understanding, never making me feel bad for clearly waking them at 3am. They said they normally don't take check-ins after a certain hour, but left their sign up due to the predicted snow and upcoming holiday. They wanted travelers to have a safe place to rest, and I am so glad they did.
Very simple, very clean, amazing hospitality. The furniture and decorations may appear plain and well worn, but it is very clean and well cared after. There is a sense of true hospitality here. It is comfortable, clean, and safe. Not fancy or luxurious, but certainly not trashy or sketchy. Nothing that gave me pause or made me want to sleep with an eye open. It will more than meet your needs to get rested and refreshed, without worrying about either safety or cleanliness. I slept like a rock. Comfortable beds. Wifi. Simple continental breakfast. And they have pet-friendly rooms available, which I used.
When they were shoveling the sidewalks the next morning, they even cleared around my van for me! They consistently went the extra mile without complaint, and with a true and natural gift for hospitality. They said it is a family started and passed down business. I would say this family definitely went into the right business. This weary traveler is very grateful she stumbled upon them. If I'm traveling through Iowa again and need a room, Crest Country Inn will be at the...
Read moreWe arrived after hours, so our keys and receipt were left in the mailbox. We opened the door to our room, and discovered that it had not been cleaned! We didn't know what to do since the office was closed. I called and left a message, and we were going to try to find a different hotel. Then a guy came out, and asked if we wanted a different room. We agreed. That rooms sheets were stained, and had hairs and stuff on them and didn't seem clean. Thankfully we brought our own bedding and so we brought them in and used them instead. The continental breakfast was pitiful also; we didn't bother. And in response to you, Joe: we were informed there was a pet fee. If you chose not to charge us, that is on you. And other than an accident he had on one towel, there were no other messes. I made sure of it! As for the third party "choosing our room", that is ridiculous. You are in charge. We simply pick single, double etc. When I called before you closed (which BTW, who does that?!), you told me our room number then. If you knew the room was dirty and "blocked off", and that you had an available clean room, why wouldn't you just give us that one?? I would say most people traveling use a third party site, as we have no idea what properties are in the area. As the owner of a business establishment, when responding to a guest on a public review, you only make yourself look bad when everytime someone complains, you tear them down, and make it all their fault, rather than apologize, and vow...
