Bad: Maid knocked on our door at 8am even tho had do not disturb sign hanging. She gave a not sincere oh sorry she was told to knock and must have gotten wrong room. No. 1. If hotel had a wakeup they would have called (and we did not ask for a wakeup). 2. One would hope maids don't just knock on doors because anyone says so. Esp with a do not disturb sign. 3. If hotel needed to reach us they would call. So there was no mistake she just woke us up on purpose. We had had a long day the day before, and one reason stayed here was the noon checkout so could catch up on rest. This was not appreciated at all.
When we were walking to our room at check-in, our floor smelled (strong soon as elevator door opened) - someone was cooking in their room (could hear the sizzle also) it was some kind of spicy food and the smell permeated the floor. Music was also playing loudly and the door was open where this seemed to be coming out of. Thankfully the smell wasn't quite as strong once in room or we'd have had to change.
At check-in my daughter asked for a non pet room. Now we know it's a pet hotel and no issues with that as hubby and I used to travel with our 12 lb shiztu before it passed a few years ago. However we had no pet now and our daughter was with us who has a very severe cat allergy (cat does not have to be present the lingering dander is enough to cause her to have a full attack). She was told all rooms were pet rooms they didn't have particular ones designated. (So be aware of this if you too have this issue.) We chose a higher floor as we know most pet owners prefer lower floors so easier to take pets out. Thankfully our daughter was ok. However I don't care how well you clean (she was told they clean well) unless you also take down the drapes and have dry cleaned and then put back - and so forth- there would have been enough cat dander to set her reaction off (she is highly sensitive and has quite severe reactions). And yes, such as that has happened to her before, I'm not exaggerating. So we would not stay here again taking a chance for this reason alone. Had it not been late and exhausted we wouldn't have have stayed in the first place.
Lastly, breakfast. Be aware that if the coffee creamer is low do not use. It will be bad/curdled. We found that out the hard way. If full, it's ok. Apparently they top off but never switch around (or toss at this point) what's on the bottom. They also ran out of dark roast coffee - and it was only about 8:45-9 (breakfast goes to 10). Waited thinking fresh would be put out but when it wasn't finally went to other lobby coffee area and got more there.
This is also right by highway so there is a lot of road noise. We were so tired it didn't matter - but the maid ignoring our do not disturb sign and waking us an hour earlier than we planned did irk us.
This particular hotel is much too expensive for all these issues. We would not stay here again if we have a choice.
Good: room was clean and beds...
Read moreSpent 2 nights at Woodstock, VA Hampton Inn (Sept. 2-4, 2020). After the first night, I noticed a few bug bites which were itchy, stingy and red on my left shoulder and left arm while at work. Did not think much of it. But after another night at the hotel, I woke up with new bug bites on my right arm, neck and back. I suspected it could be bed bugs so moved the mattress and took a couple of pictures. Did not have time to look at the pictures closely as I was eager to check out but stopped at the desk to get my receipt and to show the bug bites. Reception at this hotel is frosty at best. Tiffany (front desk person that time) did not seem to care about this incident - said she will have my room checked which does not address the incidence nor my traumatic unpleasant, unsatisfactory stay. I replied, oh, yeah, the next person would appreciate that.Tiffany proceeded to hand me a card with instructions to call Holly McCabe (General Manager). She had no interest in looking at the bites even through the plexiglass, or to spend time listening to a customer. Called Holly twice and left messages last Friday - have not received a call back (now Monday - Labor Day). Sent pictures to my supervisor who confirmed the presence of bed bugs and advised me to get checked at an urgent care before returning to my place (bugs could be in my luggage). Due to the redness and inflammation, there was concerned of an allergic reaction to the bites. Was prescribed steroid cream and antihistamine. This hotel stay has been a scary experience with Covid hanging over it. Bed bugs according to the CDC is not a Covid vector (but who knows?). The itchiness and fear of bugs crawling on me kept me awake a couple of nights in my own bed! Needless to say, I would NEVER go back to this hotel. Have pictures of the bed bugs under the mattress and the bug bites - too bad, there is no option to include here. But I don't this to happen to...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for one night while halfway home from a road trip. It's at the end of a dead end and seems like a newer hotel. The evening desk clerk (Andrew) was very pleasant, letting me know that the available room faced the highway (81). I found the road noise to be not annoying and mostly the a/c unit (which worked well) drowned out any road noise. (The hotel provides earplugs for light sleepers, which is a nice touch.) The room was clean and well-equipped and had good room toiletries as well as a mini-fridge and microwave. There are vending units on the first floor near the desk for beverages and a few heat-up meals.
Breakfast is standard road-hotel stuff -- scrambled eggs (probably powdered or ready-made liquid), some kind of sausage, a few pastries, cereals, yogurt, and you can make a surprisingly good waffle. And good coffee. Nothing spectacular, but certainly adequate. Those who want more can hit the Cracker Barrel down the road for something more substantial.
There is also a nice-looking indoor pool and well-equipped fitness center, neither of which I used.
There were only two things that were mildly disconcerting: At least on the second floor, all rooms seem to connect to the one next door. This may be great for families, but I have fear of rooms like this from an experience (not at this hotel) many years ago where someone in the next room tried to break down the connecting door. It would be nice to be able to get a non-connecting room. The other is that there is no closet if you were staying more than a night and wanted to hang clothes. There is one hook in the bathroom and that's it.
Overall, though, a very good experience, and I will definitely book this hotel again next time I'm returning from a...
