We stayed in the loft suite with "ocean view". The room was not what expected, similar to the photos but the ocean view was minimal. The actual view was the parking lot and pool with the ocean in the distance. The room was also smaller than the photos. Poorly designed in general. The walking space between the entrance and the bed was set up in a way that you could not walk through without turning sideways. Definitely not the legally required fire or evacuation clearance. More like, less than half that space. The bathroom was also akin to an airplane bathroom. You could not close the door without pressing your whole body against the opposite wall inside the bathroom or by standing inside the tub to close it. Forget trying to accommodate two people getting ready at the same time. The ventilation fan in the bathroom also did not work well, not effective in any way. The only mirror in the entire room is also only in the bathroom - so again, not good for a family, or even two people, to get ready The table took up most of the space in the kitchenette area, and had chairs that were much too big for the table it served and the room so, with two adults and two teenage children, we were constantly taking turns to move around the room. Seriously. ||Now, let's talk about the experience here. The room was clean, the furnishings (other than table) were well appointed and comfortable. If you are pillow picky, bring your own. These are weird - fluffy, but not adequate. It is similar to the puff of cotton candy, with equal support. There are two pools and a hot tub, they were heavy in traffic so we did not use any of them. Great A/C and heat - the weather varied during our visit so we used both. The private beach was good enough for walking. Very, very clean from waste debris, but a lot of seaweed, dead crabs and sea snail shells - wear shoes. Not a treasure hunting or swimming type of beach. Plenty great beaches in driving distance though. ||Last, and the MOST significant part of this review was the big downsides of rude guests and loud noise which is not to the hotel's fault specifically, but when brought to their attention, should have garnered positive action. Huge parties were happening throughout our four day stay. Not pleasant at all. We were woken several times by music and yelling. The common areas are supposed to close at 10pm at the latest and instead they went on all night. The worst was by the children of those huge parties. Totally, out of control! Kids were banging on the guest room doors, playing ding-dong-ditch, all three nights - our family and others were harassed every night. This started as early as 8pm and as late as 3am. Each time I caught them from the balcony as they ran out the building door. They yelled nasty things back at me when I asked them where their parents were. The access door they used also was supposed to be a security door with card only access but it was busted so there wasn't a thing to stop these monsters from ruining everyone's sleep. The broken security door banged loudly EVERY SINGLE TIME someone went in and out every few minutes. We were not able to change rooms because they said they were totally booked we brought this up every single day to hospitality staff and at no point was anything ever offered to help, nothing at all was done to fix the issues. One time, only one time did the front clerk come to the room area on our last night, but nothing came of that either, she walked away while instead, another hotel guest, butt-in and offered his unsolicited two cents by saying extremely inappropriate things and the hotel did nothing. She just walked away while this random party-drunk yelled sexual obscenities at me in front of his very young daughter. I asked her to call the police, and they never showed, so it is likely they were never called. ||The common-courtesy and quiet you deserve as a guest was completely absent. We are not a high-maintenance family, we just mind our business and are rarely even at our room because we spend the days out on a trip. Sleep is so important and we got none at this place.||This was first time staying at this hotel, and it will absolutely be the only time. If you don't mind a hotel that does not care at all about guest experience, by all means, stay... But, if you expect to get what you pay for - YOU WILL NOT GET IT HERE! By far, the worst stay at a hotel that I have had anywhere in the world. For context, we are an average, New England, retired military, liberal American family and this is our 20th hotel stay this calendar year (writing this in May 2025). Between work and leisure I have stayed at some (unavoidably) questionable places with work bookings. ||Overall, due to the horrible, trash can, Jerry Springer experience, I cannot justify a star, but at least one is required to post this for this review. The negative desperately outweighs any good...
Read moreI have stayed on every property on South Shore Drive multiple times for years. This was the absolute worst hotel I've stayed at. For one night at about $600 dollars, I stayed alone with my several young children in the loft suite. Checkin isn't until 4pm and it was windy and a little chilly so we checked out the indoor pool but the water was freezing and there was a soggy RUG surrounding the pool that sloshed and smelled of mold. Gross. Skipped that. once we checked in we unloaded with the multiple bags I had to carry inside with my several children, we quickly unpacked and headed to dinner. We didn't get home until about 10pm. Noticed their were no sheets, blankets or pillows for the bed on the loft. Had to call twice and took about an hour to get them. Tried brushing teeth in the bathroom sink and the sink was completely clogged. Figured we'd sit on the balcony and listen to the waves, and the balcony lights didn't work. Went to grab a drink and the fridge wasn't working. Then I figured we'd try to fall asleep and open the sky light.. yet the button did nothing- that was broken too. Decided we'd go to bed. I woke up at about 2/3am because the pillows were terrible. I got up to get a drink and I see a rather large size mouse run right across the floor and go behind the fridge. I wasn't going to pack up an entire room with all our bags and wake my 4 children under 7 to move them to a different room at 3am so needless to say I didn't get any sleep as I stayed away to keep an eye out for more mice. I went to the front desk first thing in the morning to report the issues (mainly so they could fix them for the next guests) but the mice one especially because of health concerns. I was greeted by who I now know is the manager "Frankie". Instead of even apologizing, his immediate response was well you should have reported it right when it happened and we could have moved your room. I told him I was the only adult with 4 children at 3am when it happened whom were all sleeping (he clearly doesn't have kids) and I wouldve had to pack all our bags at that hour and the kids never would have went back to sleep. It would have been a nightmare but I was telling him now. He was extremely rude and dismissive and tried to blame me for the problems with the room. He also told me that the lights are too expensive to replace. So they just leave them broken. What? Walking back to the room I noticed several black rat boxes under the staircases. Meaning they clearly know of this issue and do not care. My children and I go on one vacation a year and spent a lot of money on the hotel and dinners and activities. The pictures are false advertising as they look like they haven't had any updates on YEARS. Wallpaper pealing, mold, broken items, mice, and just gross. We booked through a 3rd party who called "Frankie" and "Frankie" lied to Priceline and said I never reported these issues and would not offer any refund at all or even a future voucher of some kind (which honestly I would never use anyway seeing as how awful this place was). Oh but "Frankie" offered a $23 dollar amenity discount so we only had to pay $600 instead of $623 yay! (Hard eye roll). Do yourself a favor and stay at the Red Jacket if you can afford it. If you can't, Ocean Club on Smugglers beach has always been amazing and treated us very well, as well as the Blue Water and the Riviera. Unless you enjoy mice crawling on you while you sleep, broken and moldy rooms, a sloshy rug around a cold indoor pool and the rudest manager you'll ever encounter! "Frankie" needs to learn to respect customers, learn basic manners, and learn to tell the truth. Absolutely dispicable treatment of guests in...
Read moreMy husband and I returned from our stay at the Ocean Mist yesterday. Needless to say I was very disappointed in our room this time (we had stayed at Ocean Mist 3-4 times prior). When we checked in on Sunday the desk clerk, who was not the most sociable, appeared puzzled when she found my last name on the reservation was not spelled correctly even though I pronounced each letter clearly over the phone when making the reservation approximately two months ago. The desk clerk saw the last name on my driver's license (which is correct) and credit card, commented about the misspelling, but she did not go into the computer system to correct it as the check-out text message I received still had the incorrect spelling. I'm surprised the billing went through because of the misspelling. When we got to our room, it had a bad odor, my initial thought was due to dampness. As I began unpacking our bags, I noticed there were only three clothes hangers in the closet, certainly not enough for the two of us who were staying three nights. In addition, two of the three hangers had hooks too small to fit over the pole of the rack in the closet! I called the front desk, explained the situation and asked for more hangers, six at best, to be delivered since I was unpacking. I was told they would be brought to the room, and they never appeared. We were in Room 146 which was behind the main building. Next, there were not enough drawers for clothing other than items we were going to hang. A total of two drawers in the cabinet that holds the t.v. were not enough for the two of us. There was a drawer in each night table on the sides of the bed, but none of the drawers were very deep for clothing. Elimination of the middle cabinet under the t.v. that holds the safe with more drawers would be a more practical solution for guests. I ended up stacking clothing on the two chairs next to the dining table. I can attest to the fact the carpeting and bathroom floors were dirty as I suffer from cold feet and wear socks when indoors. My socks were filthy each day from walking around the room, both from the carpet and the bathroom floor. Thankfully I brought a few pairs to change the socks daily. I think if the carpeting was cleaned and disinfected regularly it would add to more positive comments during one's stay and certainly help to add a pleasant odor to the room. There also appeared to be a towel shortage as our wash cloths and hand towels were never replaced once the maid removed the dirty ones from the bathroom. We ended up with bath towels only on our last evening, which was not acceptable. Lastly, our Do Not Disturb hanger disappeared after the first night of use, which was strange, maybe another guest needed it due to a shortage of them? We were very disappointed in our stay at the Ocean Mist this time and sadly we will probably not return due to the issues we experienced. I never wrote about our last experience which was good but for the fact we had our valuables locked in the safe that had to be pried open with a crowbar, that's...
