We had a bad experience here. I wrote a review describing this in Expedia's request for feedback.
Upon reading this review the owner continuously called my cellphone expressing that he would give me a full refund if I would remove this review, because it was "hurting his business." I looked into it because the request was tempting...against my better judgement. While speaking with Expedia the owner continued to call and text saying he'd like to be able to give me a full refund so I would need to get it done asap. Which put some pressure on me because it sounded like he wouldn't refund me entirely if I didn't speed up the process. Expedia denied the request because they don't think it's right for owners to buy their way out of bad reviews. I agreed and caulked it up to being meant to be, accepting it as a bad night and forgoing the refund. I communicated the decision of Expedia and the owner replied he never request a removal for a refund. This was not true considering it's in text and clearly stated. I still haven't received a refund, Expedia looked into it and said the owner had denied such refund.
So on top of a very sleepless and overpaid stay at Rolling Hills, I was put under pressure by the owner dangling a refund. Thus spending much more time on this negitive experience then I'd like to.
Vacationers beware: if I was asked to take my honest review down by this company more have as well. Making for a skewed overall look at this place. Luckily Expedia isn't down for that but other review platforms make it easier to change/delete.
The only reason I am spend even more time on this now is to warn others. I wish I would have known.
Here's our review: We were told at the front desk, at check-in (4pm) that our room wasn't ready yet. It would be another 45 minutes. This is after driving all day expecting to rest/shower. So we drove to the creek and waited. We cam back right at 45 minutes and the room had not been touched. The door was wide open so I saw it's state. Owner said another 20 minutes. He gave me 50 dollars for the trouble. So exhausted we went out for dinner, even though all me and my family wanted to do was relax. We returned an hour and a half later. Room was ready.
The room was basic. No amenities here, which is fine but let me break down how basic it is for a whoping 270.00 per night. The toilet was not bolted to the floor so sitting on it was extremely scary. The heater/ac didn't not work upon pushing it's buttons...not sure if it's broken. There was no hairdryer in the hairdryer stand. At 2am we awoke to our neighbors in the room beside us. I had my child with me so imagine how upsetting it is to be able to here every word from your hotel neighbors. We were all awake for a couple hours due to the walls being thin a paper.
It would have been helpful to be able to contact a front desk during all this but even at 7:30 am when we had to leave no one was at the front desk. Just coffee outside in 35 degree weather with tiny styrofoam cups.
We went to the gas station beside the hotel and purchased our own coffee...which at that point was a necessity.
The breakfast they provide starts at 8am...not sure if it's at the front desk or outside. We had scheduled plans though and really couldn't wait to end that whole experience asap.
If you value rest or sleep after travel then look for someplace more accommodating.

Read moreThe Rolling Hills Lodge has been a delightful place to stay. My 2 oldest children are attending the Smoky Mountain High School Prom with their friends who moved up to Cherokee a little over a year ago and we needed a place to stay for 2 nights that could offers extra space and multiple beds. We stayed in room 32 which offers 2 king size beds, 14 ft. ceilings, and an oversized bathroom which made it so much easier for my prom bound kids. I wish all hotels offered rooms with 2 king beds because it makes traveling with my teenage kids so much more enjoyable for everyone because the larger bed helps keep the peace while sleeping! The owners of this family-owned lodge are so friendly and helpful plus they assisted me in getting all of the last minute details taken care of so my children and their dates had a great time at the prom. The only problem I had was a place in the room to hang up floor length prom dresses since they would not fit in the armoires that were in the room but we made do by hanging the formal wear on the back of the bathroom door. I highly recommend this hotel because it puts you in the center of town where you can enjoy the local shops and artists plus allows you to just walk across the street to enjoy the stream that runs through the area, and the lodge offers river tubes to use during your stay to enjoy river tubing and other activities on the water. I didn't get the chance to try breakfast that is offered each morning starting at 9 am, but the covered porch is a very refreshing locale to enjoy the start...
Read moreAbsolutely, amazing place to stay! We had booked a room at Drama Inn just down the road. Upon arrival, we were charged 500+ for two nights. Non smoking rooms, the rooms smelled like cigarettes, beds covered with stained linen and pet hair. Wall boards damaged with water half hanging off the wall. The mattress was smaller than the bed frame and when I walked around the bed. I hit my shin, and let me tell you I would’ve rather hit a ball hitch on the back of a truck, full speed.
With all of this being said we requested air freshener, clean linens and mattress covers. We were handed a receipt for a full refund, and told we had 5 minutes to vacate the property (after we had already unloaded the vehicle with 4 people’s and a child’s luggage). The reason was “3 complaints in 10 minutes of being here.”
In my opinion, they were 3 valid reasons to complain after handing over almost $600.00.
We found the Rolling Hills Lodge. Let me tell you it was like night and day!
Amazing hospitality, extremely clean rooms, and property.
Some of the best breakfast I have ever ate, beautiful location and cheaper prices per night than the crap hole down the road.
10/10 highly recommend and would be 100 stars if possible.
If you are looking for a place to stay in Cherokee this would be my recommendation for anyone, any...
