We travel a lot and have stayed in thousands of hotels. This has to be one of the most bizarre customer service issues we have experienced. We were given the only room (18) that was behind the hotel and not a part of the main hotel. ||We ran out of toilet paper at midnight on our first night. We looked for the “extra roll” and found none. Additionally the toilet constantly ran and there was a mechanical noise that kept us awake.||At 8:30 am I went to the front desk, explained the situation. and asked for toilet paper. I speak some Spanish and the reception spoke some English. He clearly understood my request. He informed me each room received one roll of toilet paper. When I inquired as to what a person does when they need another roll in the middle of the night I was informed to call reception. There are no phones in the room and for our room that would mean walking outside in the middle of the night.||We went to breakfast and returned to our room…no toilet paper. We had to take toilet paper from the public rest room, as did another set of guests we traveled with. We checked again at noon and 2 p.m. and no toilet paper. The reception was indifferent to us. ||We contacted the tour agency that assisted with our trip. The hotel confirmed the toilet paper had not been provided and told her they had already offered to give us toilet paper and check the running toilet with the late afternoon cleaning. She explained this was to be remedied immediately, which then occurred. ||What hotel refuses to provide toilet paper for a 16 hour period of time? They did try to fix the running toilet three times but it was unsuccessful. When we left the toilet had been running for three hours. ||The breakfast room is small and there were not spaces for us to sit. Also no hot food at breakfast. It is mostly heavy carbs and sugary cereal.||The location is perfect and there is beauty to this historic hotel, but I would look for a hotel that is geared toward...

Completely soulless reception for such a charming location. Beautiful patio but it's just that - a patio - as you can't really spend time admiring it since there are no chairs or tables outside. Rooms are overlooking the patio but again to be able to somewhat enjoy the view you need to keep your room doors/windows open which then violates the privacy. Scarce breakfast. Rooms are dark&humid. Humidity in all rooms and smell that creeps into your all possessions. Travelled all over the world and not once did I see that a hotel would charge you ($3) for coffee capsules located in your room. Besides for such an extortionate price. It's literally cheaper to go and get a coffee anywhere else with a view, instead of sitting in your damp dark room.
All in all, it dampened our holidays and complete and utter unresponsiveness of the staff is beyond shocking. It is just not worth the money and it doesn't deliver the level of service that it tries to market and advertise and that you would expect at such prices.
People in other hotels where we went to look for an alternative were all nicer and went above and beyond to try and salvage our stay than the staff we encountered at Posada Plaza Mayor that we were paying customers of.
Learn from our experience: don't let this posada ruin your stay. Avoid this place and choose one of the tons of other cheaper and better...
Read morePosada Plaza Mayor is a charming boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Colonia del Sacramento’s historic old town. With just 14 rooms, it offers an intimate and peaceful stay, perfect for those looking to soak in the town’s colonial charm.
From the moment we arrived, the reception was warm and welcoming, and check-in was handled smoothly and efficiently. Our room was beautiful—serene, spotless, and well-appointed, with a comfortable bed and thoughtful amenities that made for a relaxing stay.
However, two things took away from what could have been a perfect experience. First, the receptionist recommended Charco Bistró (their sister restaurant) and assured us she would make a reservation, but unfortunately, that never happened. Second, the hotel charges $3 per Nespresso capsule—a detail I only noticed after using one. At first glance, the capsules appeared complimentary, making the charge feel unnecessary and, frankly, insulting for a hotel of this caliber. Small charges like this can leave a bad impression, especially when they feel excessive.
Breakfast consisted of a selection of baked goods, juices, and coffee. It wasn’t anything remarkable, but it was enough to start the day.
Overall, Posada Plaza Mayor is a beautiful place to stay, but a bit more attention to service and guest experience would make it truly...
