Posada El Capullo — Hotel in Colonia del Sacramento

This was our first time back to Colonia after a few years and so wanted to stay at El Capullo, which years ago, was the first place we stayed (in fact, this year unexpectedly we ended up in the same room as that first time, which was a nice surprise). The visit this year, was the first with the new owners so it was interesting comparing the similarities and differences from our first two stays, with previous ownership to this year under new ownership:||||Similarities:||-Still great and lovely backyard/garden/pool area||-Great service from staff||-Lovely, comfortable rooms||-good breakfast||||Differences:||-New sign/logo ||-More "homey" feel with decor, although still "cool"||-Slightly higher price, but not exorbitantly so||-New expanded area for parking (although we didn't have a car, good to know we could)||||We love this place and certainly...

Posada El Capullo is a special place. Not only do they have the most comfortable beds, but they have phenomenal service. I was only in town for a short time and asked Silvana for a tour guide recommendation. She set me up with a local historian tour guide who gave me an informative introduction to Colónia. Later that night I brought a pizza and wine back to my room, and asked the team for a wine opener. The young man who helped me got me a silver tray, a wine opener, and set of napkins in a napkin holder, as if it were room service. Appreciated the special touch.

Lovely place - solar panels, tidy white tables and chairs in breakfast room, two computers for guest use and bedrooms in simple, traditional style with white linen and dark wood shutters and furniture. The garden is tranquil, lawn and trees and some lovely orange flowers in silver pots arranged around a small decked swimming pool and bar. Some beautiful birds visit - wish I was an or ornithologist! The best aspect though is the lovely receptionist Maria. Our friend was struck with food poisoning overnight and Maria went over and above, calling a doctor who arrived in ten minutes, extending our stay as our friend was too ill to move and cancelling the hotel in Montevideo we were supposed to move on to.
