If you read my review of the place next door you will think I am cranky. Not so, I have been all over Argentina for three weeks and could not have had a better time. Took the ferry over here to see Colonia and yes it is NY and yes I am aware of downtime in the early pm. But, here goes, since the bar next door was booked out for the evening despite no customers, we went to this place and met Martin. I just wanted some place to sit and have a drink and wait for dinner places to open. This places serves dinner but not yet. So I asked about a cocktail, “No, but beer and wine”, OK, bottle of wine, Martin says want to see prices? I said “No, $ no object” instant table. Bought his recommended local white wine and a few pieces of bread for $60 US just for the view. Had fun with Martin. Nice (maybe local couple) at next table sharing a split over a clearly special dinner so I wanted to do something nice for them and asked Martin if they had any sparkling wine I could send them. He then offered to sell me a bottle of Chandon for $60 US. I offered $30 it went downhill from there. Take it for what it is worth there is making a living, skimming a little on NY, petty larceny and grand theft. Colonia is quaint and historic and I am sure there are nice intelligent people on every corner but not working in either of these...

In my case: (argentine pesos vs uruguayan pesos) actual exchange rate 0.62 (with my debit card the bank uses 0.58) and the restaurant made me pay with a exchange rate of 0.40!! meaning: they entered a higher amount than what i should have paid...
Ended up paying 5300argentine pesos (almost 80euros) for a simple lunch for 2 persons: meat, fries, mayonaise and a bottle of wine (cheap wine). The meat wasnt even as good as should be in Uruguay. Nothing special, not that tasty.
I recommend tourists to stay away from this restaurant and find themselves a nice and cosy place where they cherish their customers and not rip them...
Read moreEven though the location and the view are good, the quality of the food is so bad it is not worth it. Burned and undercooked fish (no idea how it is even possible) served with a single tomato cut in slices at a really high price is one of their ‘signature’ dishes. The restaurant excepts only cash and you have to be persistant to get a proper receipt. It has all the qualities of a proper tourist trap and that’s it. Oh... and a few peaces of bread with some spiced mayonaise is the couvert they charge...
