My choice for this hotel at the end of my Uzbekistan trip had been its closeness to the domestic and international airports. For my stay in Tashkent at the beginning of my tour I selected a hotel closer to the centre. The surroundings of the Royal Mezbon are not very pleasant: a very busy street, almost impossible to cross and nowhere to go on foot. Out the window, in fact a whole glass wall, which I like, one only saw ugly apartment blocks from Soviet days. Taxis are the only way to get out from here.||||The hotel recommends itself also as a spa, but my time here was so limited, that I could not test it. Nor did I have a chance to try the breakfast due to an early flight. Instead I went for dinner, where there were hardly any other guests. There is a bar and a big list of cocktails in the menu card, but the barman seemed to be a total beginner and he didn't even know what brand their only draught beer is.||||For dinner I had an arugula salad to start, but it consisted mainly of pieces of beef, not mentioned in the menu card. After that I had a 'Traditional Lagman', made with Spaghetti instead of typical Uzbek noodles and again mainly full of meat, the same kind as in the salad before.||||The whole hotel is full of kitsch with a porch consisting of Corinthian columns and a rather overloaded interior decoration. At least the room was comfortable with a good bed and shower. Unlike most other hotels I stayed in Uzbekistan here one doesn't get an old-fashioned key,...
Read moreThis hotel was the biggest waste of money on my whole Uzbekistan trip. I booked this hotel for $290 USD for 3 nights (without breakfast) thinking the spa would be nice to use after sightseeing, not realising that the spa costs $25 USD every hour you want to use it (essentially just a sauna/steam room and plunge pool). In the 60 countries I've visited, I've never had to pay that much to use a tiny spa at a hotel I'm staying at!! Location wasn't really close to anything. The room was old fashioned, the carpet was dirty, and the shower didn't drain properly so I had to keep turning the shower off to let it drain, the shower head was slightly broken, and the lights flickered consistently in the bathroom. There were no bath robes, no hair conditioner, body lotion, cotton pads, shaver, nail file etc. Just one member of staff at the desk. No security, nobody to help with your bags etc, which would make the cost more feasible. Restaurant wasn't great, pretty overpriced. Kept being woken up by noise in the corridors and from the busy road outside, as well as the mosque. WiFi didn't work well most...
Read moreI'm currently staying at this right now. Very disappointing. First and foremost, I've been to 93 countries and this is what they claimed to be a 4 star hotel that you have to pay access to the swimming pool. And you have to book to use sauna and pay! I booked a room that includes breakfast and dinner. I am about to have dinner right now but my first option being tashkent pilaf (local dish) is not available and it is a local dish! My alternative dish was an Asian chicken stir fry and it was so bland and taste less and the cucumber and tomato salad wasn't fresh at all. It was saggy vegetables no wonder I was the only person having dinner at their restaurant at 7pm.
Spoke to the manager and they can't do anything about it. I wished I read the reviews before booking it.
Very boring hotel. 20min away from the city, nothing to do, can't use pool and sauna unless you pay. Don't stay here and not worthy of your money. Poor management, poor AC, poor eveything
