My husband and I stayed 3 nights with a group (20, 21, 22 August) and had to deal with a series of unfortunate events. We stayed in room A215.
Prior to check in the receptionist was quite rude. He initially refused to check us in and insisted we pay tourist tax. We explained that our group leader would be sorting this out after his arrival in the morning. He refused to listen. Eventually we were allowed to check in with a warning that the key card would be automatically deactivated at midday the following day.
Once we got to the room we noticed a few issues. The bath was filling up (water not draining properly) when we showered. We asked for this drain to be unblocked. There was also a variety of white stains on the sofa which we asked to be cleaned. Despite Housekeeping coming to check the sofa and take photographs - with a promise to clean - nothing happened the whole time we were there. We left not being able to use the sofa at all.
On our last night we returned at 11.30pm to find our AC was not working. I had to make 2 phone calls to reception for it to be fixed. I had to open the balcony door to let air in. It finally was fixed but then, just as we were trying to sleep the AC stopped working again. We were told by the Guest Relations Manager suggested it might be on account of us taking out the key card and therefore cutting off the electricity supply to the AC (as if we didn't know how to use the key card).
A month later the Guest Relations Manager has made many promises of compensation but nothing has materialised . This includes an empty promise of a complimentary stay at a Mercure Hotel of our choice,. Emails are now being ignored by Mercure and Head office are not taking ownership either.
This is disappointing and well below the standard of expectation from the...
Read moreThe hotel is beautiful. It's down a lone street. Looks like a building you'd see in Paris. Across the street looks like Soweto. The room was really nice, but the bed was had. Breakfast is great. Good variety with chocolate muffins that are to die for. One of the waiters plays the electric keyboard for a while. He is really good. The steakhouse and the Turkish restaurant are decent. The pool looks really cool. I don't know why people say this is in a good location. The closest sight is Magic City that is over an hours walk away. Personally, if you're going to be in the city, I would stay by Amir Temur Square that is quite and green or better yet, by or at the Hilton in the "ritzy" part of town where there are a lot of restaurants and shops right there. Download the taxi app Yandez Go. It's cheap, convenient and easy to use. Plan plenty of time for check out and getting to the airport. We settled up the night before and asked for a car to the airport as our flight was leaving at 3:00 am. When we went downstairs we were told that we had not paid the tourist tax the night before and they had forgotten to arrange a car for us. Be sure and print out your boarding pass if you are not planning on checking in at the airport counter because passport control will not accept the electronic boarding pass. Because of the delay at the hotel and the boarding pass issue, we ended up missing our flight. The check in counter had closed by the time we found out we would need a paper boarding pass. Get there two hours early...
Read moreStayed in this hotel at the beginning and end of a ten day tour round Uzbekistan. Very modern hotel, large rooms with all the facilities one would need. I stayed in both halves of this hotel. The first night I had a huge shower room, a dressing room, a large bed, sofa and writing desk. A kettle and a fridge was provided. Free WiFi was available. Everywhere was spotless. The room on the older part of the hotel had a shower over the bath. |Our breakfast was included which was in a delightful large room I would describe as traditional Uzbekistan design, it was charming. There was a huge selection of food in the buffet, fresh cheeses, meats & local sausage. Eggs were cooked to order. Breads, pastries, cakes & biscuits. Jams and fruit, too much to mention. Coffee, tea and juices plentiful. The staff were very attentive. I cannot fault anything. |Two young reception staff were on duty outside of the restaurant, they helped me with the internet and they were only too keen to answer my questions about their beautiful Country. |This hotel has a gym, spa and pool in the basement. I did not go into the restaurant in this hotel. On our last night of the tour we stayed again and received a pre booked three course meal. I stuck to the soup and chocolate desert which was outstanding and I am not a chocolate lover, it...
