We stayed here as part of an organised tour and I made the mistake of researching the location and reviews of the Mirzo Boutique Hotel which is a sister hotel located somewhere completely different. As such, we were disappointed not to be within walking distance of Chorso Bazaar and other sites. |However, that being said, Tashkent is a sprawling city and the main places of interest are spread out and not very easy to explore on foot so after our initial disappointment we thought that the location was okay. It’s in a residential area with the advantage of being within a short walk to a couple of restaurants (useful as the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, despite it being listed) a nice bakery and a convenience store. Around 20 minutes away is a local bazaar which is not at all touristy. |The hotel itself is very new, small and is personal not corporate. Rooms are very comfortable with all the facilities you need with the exception of decent WiFi which is very slow even in the lobby. Rooms have phones but there was no number for reception and when we had a problem with the safe (it was bleeping continuously) we had to go down to the lobby to ask them to open it with the key. No one came after half an hour which meant going down a second time. It was getting late and we needed to get to sleep for a 05.30 start. When the receptionist did arrive he had to go back for a key because he couldn’t reset the combination. |Breakfast is served in the lower ground floor. There’s a lift but you are still faced with a short flight of steps. The selection was quite good with some hot food sitting in chafing dishes, cold meats and cheeses, cakes, basic cereals and fruit. The bread was cut up and had dried out but there wasn’t a toaster. There were just two women working and they didn’t seem to have enough time to clear tables and replenish the dishes. |During our stay we had two very early starts and our guide had requested a breakfast box. The contents were weird. Hard boiled egg, a slice of orange, a piece of cake, a toffee sweet, a slice of bread and…a sprig of cold, cooked broccoli that made everything soggy. On the second occasion the guide had requested just a couple of pieces of fruit for us and nothing else. However, the breakfast box contained exactly the same (fortunately without the broccoli) so we bought a pastry at the airport instead. |One area that needs to improve is housekeeping. One day we returned from a city tour at 17.00 only to find the room was still being serviced. On another occasion it had not been cleaned at all. Others in our group experienced the same issues. |All in all we felt that the hotel has potential but there were issues and the four out of five is on the...
