Me and my boyfriend stayed here for only 2 nights while visiting da nang, we arrived in da nang early morning and knew it was too early to check in but we got a taxi to the hotel anyway and explored the area around it. When we arrived the taxi driver struggled to communicate with us due to the language barrier, so the hotel receptionist came straight out and translated for us. After a walk around the area we went back to the hotel, they politely informed us that our room wasn’t ready and the people hadn’t checked out, so they offered us to take the bikes or wait in the hotel reception area. We decided to wait because of how tired we was and the staff looked after us- getting us drinks and giving us information on the island! Once our room was ready one of the ladies from reception took us to it in the lift. The room was AMAZING, we’ve been travelling for 2 months and this is the nicest room we’ve had! The room was huge with double bed, sofa, wardrobe and kitchen area, the bathroom had a gorgeous bath, with shower head, a separate shower, toilet and sink area. The room was perfectly clean and towels were changed both days, toiletries were provided (however there wasn’t much in them so could’ve done to be filled up). We especially enjoyed been able to have a warm bath after months away from luxuries at home! The staff are so lovely and helpful and always make an effort to speak to you when they see you and check everything is ok. The location is good and within walking distance to the beach, or the opposite way is the dragon bridge and plenty of restaurants to choose from. My only nit pick is that there was noise coming from the construction work next to the hotel in the morning which woke us up (but this is something out of the hotels control) and also there is a vent in the bathroom but no window on it so a couple of mosquitos did get in. But overall our stay here was brilliant and I would 100% recommend! Thank...
Read moreThis hotel was good for us, in spite of some negative reviews related to noise. Fortunately the notorious beer club is closed now, so no noise or music for 10 days of our stay there. The staff was friendly and they tried to help us as much as possible. For example, we arrived early and without a prior notice. The receptionist asked us to wait until 2 pm, and we decided to walk around. We left our luggage there and had coffee nearby. Then the receptionist sent us an email that the room is ready earlier (it was around 12:30). ||||Another example - we ordered a private trip to Bach Ma national park, with a guide and a car in the “Guest relation” desk in the hotel. Unfortunately my wife got sick in the very day of that trip, so we had to cancel it, although a car with the guide has arrived. They did not charged us any fee and they even suggested us to give us a lift to a hospital. ||||The hotel offer trips in small groups in minivans, which is so much better than these huge buses! Also we noticed that the guides are more professional and speak English better. On the other hand, the price is higher, but it is still very reasonable.||||The clerk in “Guest relation” - her name is Kinny Hoang is very amiable and helped us a lot with many issues. She even bought us socks to protect us from leeches in jungles! They became friends with my wife. ||||About noise: there is a busy road in front of the hotel, but unlike to other hotels nearby Lion Sea is situated away from the street because it has a square in front of it, with a fountain and restaurant. This mitigates the noise from motor-bikes, which plagued the whole Vietnam with their horns and revving. ||||The hotel is a little bit old now, but it is very clean. The staff cleaned our room every day. The beach is endless and very beautiful. It is also very clean. I think for this price (~$30-40) this hotel has no...
Read moreI wanted to give this higher marks. The positives: wonderful location right across from the beach, and near to many great cheap restaurants and 24 hour markets. Sweet, very kind staff who really struggled to make things work. Surprisingly comfortable bed. VERY good price, and this is why I would probably actually stay here again despite my poor review. The negatives: The elevator doesn't work, or rather, it's inconsistent. I was stopped between floors, and have had to wait 10 minutes or more while the staff finds a way to make it operate. The reception phone does not work at all. The breakfast is a puzzle to me. There were many choices, but none were palatable to me. This is just perhaps my own personal taste. I do wish they'd offer a few more so-called "western" choices, to appeal to the fussy (including me) Western palate. As it was, the only thing I could eat was bread with jam. I'd have loved butter instead of margarine, to spread on it! The view from my 4th floor room is great, and the room itself is fine. It needs a new coat of paint, and it needs a few more operational electric plug ins. The TV is also inconsistent, but I'm so happy they offer CNN. As I said in my title, this was obviously a very grand hotel, years ago. It has been surrounded by modern, high rise, well-lighted and very pricey competitors on all sides. I do hope this hotel survives, because of its colonial charm. I don't know who owns, it. It needs more than a little TLC. It needs to have the elevator replaced, the rooms painted, and the bathroom showers modernized. This expense will undoubtedly mean a rise in price, but I do think people would be willing to pay a little more, for a little more comfortable accommodation. I do wish I knew who (or what company) actually owns this hotel, as I'd like to give them much advice for the future. I do believe the investment they might make...
