My favourite stay in Hanoi this trip!
The family were able to arrange really affordable and timely transfers to Ninh Binh, and to and fro the airport. The limo vans that they booked for us were really comfortable and even came with a massage. I booked my cruise elsewhere and the transport was not only late but quite uncomfortable, as we got squeezed into a small car with a broken suspension for four hours, and the seatbelts were broken.
The place is lovely and absolutely true to photos. We went just last week, and the weather was between the 29 to 37 degrees in Ninh Binh, but we were delighted that the aircon worked well and there was a trusty ceiling fan to cool things off. The view from the third floor was truly paranomic, and it is breathtaking to see all the limestone mountains while having breakfast for all three mornings that we were there. There are many chill spots around the homestay, and the pool was lovely when the nights were 30 degrees, nearly as warm as a hot tub and has floaties, plus is well maintained. Don't miss waking up early in the morning to hear the bird song and smell the thai jasmines that grow on the homestay. Sun rises at 5am in summer time, so expect to have early nights and early mornings if you visit in the summer, so you can catch the cool morning breeze.
As vegetarians, we were also able to get custom noodles in the morning for breakfast when we asked for tofu with our vegetarian noodles, and I saw them bringing fresh tofu in a little plastic bag in the morning. That was really sweet of them.
Alex's wife also shared a bag of fresh jackfruit that she harvested recently from the jackfruit tree with us, and they tasted amazing. Definitely better than anything we get in our supermarkets back in Singapore.
The location was also truly stunning. If you are looking for a place to stay in Ninh Binh, look no further. I have visited Ninh Binh City Centre as well as Tamcoc area, and I have to say this location is the best if you intend to have a laid-back vacation with lots of food options within a walking distance, as well as being within cycling distance to two major attractions, Trang An and Mua Viewpoint. We fully utilised the free bike rentals, and cycled to both and it was really scenic passing limestone mountains, ricefields and actual homes in the area. Spent two full days exploring both and just chilling.
Also very appreciative of helping to arrange for my lost apple pencil to be shipped to Hanoi from Ninh Binh on such short notice.
All in all, it was a great trip and I will definitely return if I come back to...
Read moreWe stayed for seven nights at Ninh Binh Greenland Homestay and immediately felt relaxed and welcomed by Alex and his lovely family - and their adorable pets (two dogs and a cat!).
The homestay itself is beautifully designed - stylish yet rustic, with a warm, homely atmosphere. It offers excellent value for money, and the pool area is a real highlight, with sun loungers and plenty of poolside seating.
The location is really good; close to plenty of restaurants and cafés, within walking distance of Tam Coc, and easily accessible by Grab, bike, or motorbike to all the main tourist attractions. We were able to take long, leisurely walks around the countryside, surrounding by gorgeous nature. On arrival, we were given a helpful map and lots of great suggestions for things to see and do around Ninh Binh.
The rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. I work remotely and was able to attend all my virtual meetings using the homestay’s shared Wi-Fi without any issues. Alex was really accommodating - bringing me a special chair and table to work from. During a three-hour power cut (which affected the whole neighbourhood), he kindly lent me his internet hotspot so I could keep working - such a thoughtful gesture! Apart from that, the electricity and internet were stable and reliable throughout our stay.
Unfortunately, the chef who usually prepares the evening meals was unavailable during our visit, so we couldn't have any dinners at the homestay or experience their family-style group dinners, which we’d really been looking forward to. We had breakfast at the homestay every morning, but had to go elsewhere for lunch and dinner - a bit inconvenient on rainy evenings.
It’s also worth noting that there’s currently a construction project directly next to the homestay. One day there was a lot of hammering and drilling noise, though the construction work was quieter the rest of the week. Not a major issue for us, but something to keep in mind if you’re seeking complete peace and quiet or need to work...
Read moreI recently stayed at this most comfortable and charming homestay in an ideal location for walks and complimentary bike rides in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Trang An -Ninh Binh Vietnam. This is one of the original homestay's started many years ago by proprietor Alex's parents Cu and Lien. The air-con rooms are sizable and comfortable, with a large private pool, refreshing after a day out and about. The local food served family style prepared by Alex's wife Yen was outstanding. The large dining area is on the 3rd floor with stunning views making for great meal-time experiences. The dining hall can be opened or closed with air-con depending on the weather and time of day. Overall great value!|What makes this homestay special is simply Alex and his most gracious family. I was actually in Ninh Binh dealing with a most difficult situation and would have been at a complete loss if not for Alex, his brother Khoa and the rest of his family who went out of their way to assist my group with affordable and timely transportation needs, interpreter duties in working with the local authorities and hospital staff, and in the understanding of what needed to be done in dealing with an accident in Vietnam. Believe me the support and generosity we received by Alex and his family was above what anyone should expect from a lodging stay anywhere in the world. We shall forever be indebted to Alex and his family so I do hope you will consider a stay at Greenland Homestay should your travels ever bring you to this magnificent...
