DO NOT USE THE BIKES FROM THIS PLACE! All of the bikes (which look about 50 years old) are free to hire when you stay at this hotel and so we took advantage of that and decided to go for a bike ride. As soon as we set off we noticed that the brakes sounded like they were on their last legs and the bikes were rattling and squeaking like crazy! About 40 minutes into our bike ride the chain came off one of the bikes, the bikes are not new enough to have a catch to make the chain slack so we had to just tug the chain gently until it lifted back onto the gears, which took us a good 30 minutes. Feeling accomplished, we then went to set off again and the same chain immediately snapped. This is obviously not within our capabilities to fix so we messaged the hotel owner and asked him to come and recover us and the bikes since we were stranded. He arrived 15 minutes later with a new bike to replace the other one and this is when he told us that we would have to pay for the repairs to the bike since it broke whilst we were using it. This is absolutely ridiculous since it was clearly rusted and old and the chain probably snapped because the bikes get left out to rust in the torrential rain which also might explain the horrible squeaking noise they make. I am convinced that they only hire them out for free because all the bikes are so old and rusty and the chances of something going wrong are so high, they just wait for something to break and then charge you as much as they like to fix it. We did not at any point get told that we would be responsible for any damages to the bike and this has made an already disappointing and disgusting experience at this...
Read moreVillage House is literally a home to me. I remember the first time I got to this area. It was dark at night and all the famous homestays nearby were completely full, so I was quite nervous. Luckily, this homestay, listed on booking not long ago, was available for me. Thank god I didn’t have to sleep on the street.
The moment I came to this house, I was a little bit surprised. It was way bigger than what I expected. One of the owners told me that his homestay is the combination of two houses - his house and his relative’s house. The dorm rooms are spacy, clean, and have separate bathrooms. The private rooms offer personal bathrooms, air-conditioners, hot showers, free wifi, and mini cupboards for drinks. Another unexpected thing was that I booked a dorm bed at first, but the house nearby was under construction, so the owner proactively moved me to a private room. How kind he was that he didn’t charge me any more penny!
The house is only 15 minutes ride from Phong Nha national park, so you can easily observe mountain views of the park from it. The house also provides free hammocks, chairs, and bicycles. I casually sit on a chair near the Son river to relax and enjoy the nature from dusk till dawn. Another great point is that the house includes free breakfast which is out of this world! They have a wide range of food, such as banana pancakes, stir-fried noodles, and pho. When I left, the chef even gave me an extra banana pancake. I will definitely come here...
Read moreGreat homestay/hostel located off the main block on a quiet rode opposite the river. You can swim in the river during the day, swim in the hammock, enjoy a book and a beer and chill out. Also HUGE props for having an Aux cable for putting your own tunes on while kicking it.
The staff are really friendly. They picked us up from the bus station at 4am, have a nice breakfast you eat on the river, and a solid family dinner that gets everyone together and hanging out to end the evening. Rooms are clean with really good AC. Also got my laundry done here for 30k a kilo so I no longer smell. Motorbikes are also available on-premise for rent for the day to get to the caves. I recommend staying here if you are...
