Overall, my partner and I had a pleasant 2-night stay here, although there is room for improvement.
Room:
The king size room was spacious, and it had a lovely balcony. The bed was also comfortable.
However,
i. The floor in the room and outside can get slippery. This could be dangerous, especially for children. Safeguarding needed.
ii. The drain in the shower did not work, creating an overfill of water. We fixed this by removing the drain cover, so it seems like a design fault.
iii. There was construction that woke us up at 07:45 one morning. Whilst construction is acceptable, guests should be notified and it should not start before 09:00.
Breakfast:
Overall, the breakfast buffet has a good spread with plenty of options for all. Good coffee machine. Attentive and polite staff.
Spa (not technically part of hotel):
The 100’ hot stone full body massage was relaxing and professional.
However,
i. The bathroom was in poor condition. No hand towels, cheap soap.
ii. The towels in the spa room were old and stained.
iii. We were offered the choice of a couples’ room or an individual room each. After choosing the couples’ room, we were informed it would cost an extra 200k. This was not made clear by the spa manager before asking or on the massage brochure, and it left us feeling upsold and confused. We followed up with the hotel reception, and they informed us this wasn’t the policy and they would get back to us. They never followed up. All rather suspect.
Facilities:
Nice pool. There is a gym, but we didn’t look inside. We used the bicycles one afternoon, which was lovely. Pool can get busy in the morning and late afternoon with kids/families, but after 11am it is quiet. High tide means the private beach is not safe from morning to early afternoon. Plenty of other activities on offer like yoga, paddle boarding etc.
However,
i. There was construction when we tried to use the pool one morning. Again, this should have been communicated to guests - perhaps via their room televisions.
Staff/service:
Polite, helpful and attentive at reception. Check out was a bit muddled, and we were asked to settle a bill that we had already paid for. No shuttle - ferry terminal despite being advertised on website.
Location:
Stunning setting....
Read moreDear Mercure/Accor Team and the General Manager - Sunil Verma, I hope you are doing well. I am writing this email to propose a full complaint about your staff behaviour/ attitude and customer service skills. Our family with 23 people came from Saigon to Vung Tau on the 28th of January 2023 (4 of us are Australian). We have booked 9 rooms from Chu Du and payments have been fully made. At the time we arrive to Mercure hotel at Vung tau, we have met Ms Nguyen Thi Kien, who has confirmed the general manager, the biggest boss at the hotel. I have asked her to discuss with other manager for alternative solutions and Ms Kien has refused and asked us to go to other hotel as she was unable to let us in? What? Payments have been met and we are refused to be stayed. This is how you ruined other holiday trip? She had refused for us to complete check in because 4 Australian were unable to show evidence of visa to enter Vietnam. This is ridiculous. The very first time I have been asked for visa in order to complete the check in at hotel. The visa has been checked and granted by Vietnamese's customs at Tan Son Nhat Airport at arrival. Why should you ask for that for hotel check in where Australian passports have been provided? We had a large group of people which unable to book for another hotel otherwise we will definitely move to another hotel. We have contact the local police which confirmed we are able to check in with other people as guarantees. The service provided by Ms. Kien is ridiculous, terrible and I would strongly recommend all the other people should not book this hotel. Definitely, myself and my family will not be back even we receive a free night here. I am strongly recommend the management department of Accor, Mercure and other agent to consider about this as we would not come back here from now. Our family of 20 people will rate this service as 1 star and google and full story will be uploaded for other people to understand the way of how you treat the customers. Regards and best of luck for...
Read moreEvery moment from booking, to check-in, throughout the stay was beautifully handled by the lovely team in this resort. A special thank you to Ly & Duyen, who can only be described as gems, took care of us upon arrival and ensured a pleasant stay, including our member benefits.
The rooms are lovely, clean, comfortable and spacious. We were graced with the beach-side room which had a fantastic view towards the ocean.
The resort is well kept, clean, maintained and has a private beach. This is huge bonus since the beaches in Vung Tau are generally not so great. While the private beach is small, it is maintained - the staff work tirelessly to keep it clean, morning and evening. The swimming pool, gym, kids room are accessible. The general look and feel of the resort is like a mediterranean style resort, low-rise so it doesn't feel intruding or over bearing.
The restaurant - for local selections, the food in the resort is good, and well priced. if you are not sure what to go for, you will do well with any selection from the Asian menu. However, the 'Western' selections need some work. Yes, there are plenty of good options outside, however, for those lazy nights (you know how it goes) it nice to have the cozy option.
Breakfast is outstanding, with various local delights made to order such as Vietnamese broken rice (cơm tấm), Vietnamese beef noodles (phở), omelette station, pancake and waffle station, fresh fruits, and salad, plus the added extras you will typically find at a continental breaky.
The resort is located really close to town. If you are up for a walk, it is 20 mins to the town. If you are feeling lazy, then 5 mins or less in a grab or taxi.
Everyone knows Vung Tau as a weekend get-away since it is just a 2 hour drive from HCMC. It doesn't have a great reputation for tidiness either - however, one little resort changes all of this. So if you are considering Vung Tau, the Mercure...
