Have shopped here for years; but today really pushed my limits. In previously recent experiences the customer service in the beauty department is dismal & I often leave wondering why I keep going back, but today I left feeling wronged.
My husband & I went into shop, he paid for my skin care products with his stuff upstairs because I couldnāt get served in the beauty area (9:45 am). As I was wondering in the candle/beauty area again, I then found a lady & bought a few candles, my husband returned & handed me my products to put in my shopping bag, as he was going to another store. I decided to get the cleanser I was in two minds about, so I went upto a lady at the Clarins counter as she was the closest & asked to pay for the cleanser. Without a hello or any attempt at customer rapport, She then grabbed my other shopping bags & started looking through, asking me for receipts. I provided the receipt for the candles Iād purchased but couldnāt find the receipt for the skin care as I think my husband still had it in his bag. She then started almost accusing me of trying to steal. Which made me feel extremely uncomfortable; I just wanted to leave so I offered to pay for all 3 items. Purely because I was embarrassed. The money is not my issue here. And yes, I will endeavour to get a return of funds for the products I double paid for.
I know reading this you may think Iām overreacting & she was in her rights to question me; but if just like to highlight a couple of issues here.

We didnāt need any help we just needed to pay for our items. The staff member helped us by finalising the transaction, the staff member then proceeded to have a conversation with us for about 10 mins about their life and we talked about a few things and common interests, it was a rather normal conversation up to this point with nothing out of the ordinary. The staff member brings up Stevie wonder and how they like his music. I said how I wasnāt too familiar with Stevie wonder as itās not my generations kind of music but might check it out. Without a moments notice the staff member completely disengaged with our conversation. They appeared to be looking behind us but I looked around and nobody was their. I said āanyway we better get going thanks for all your helpā and the staff member completely ignored us and maintained focus on a seemingly invisible thing behind us. We were extremely spooked by it all so we just turned around and walked towards the exit. The staff member maintained their silence as if myself and my friend was not even there. It was the most bizarre sudden change of pace Iāve ever experienced in my entire life and Iām still completely mystified why the staff member had suddenly stopped talking and looked into the distance at nothing. Is this a regular thing that happens, my friend and I couldnāt work out what had happened and spoke about it for hours after and had no reasonable explanation for it. Giving this store a 1 star review due to the lack of professionalism displayed by the staff member. We spent a few hundred dollars before being completely ignored and treated like ghosts due to saying I wasnāt familiar with Stevie wonder it seems? I am absolutely blown away by Helen's genuine care for her customers. She went way above and beyond for me, and I honestly couldn't have asked for more.
To cut a long story short, my friend was missing a small piece from a Royal Albert 3-tier cake stand that I had gifted her for her birthday. When I contacted Helen, she went above and beyond to make everything perfect and fix the situation immediately. She treated my problem as if it were her own - the care, attention, and follow-up phone calls were honestly like nothing I've experienced before.
I felt so valued as a customer, and Helen put my mind at ease the moment she spoke to me. I knew my friend's birthday gift was going to be perfect. Helen assured me that everything would be sorted, and she delivered on that promise completely.
I can confidently say that Helen is an absolute asset to David Jones Marion. She should be the face of that store! I'm certain she brings ongoing business through her genuine interest in creating a 10/10 customer experience. I will definitely return specifically to shop with Helen, knowing that no matter what, my experience will be perfectly taken care of.
I'm not usually one to write reviews, but this was absolutely necessary. David Jones, you have something very special in Helen as a representative of your business - there aren't many employees like her in the world. Over the past week, her helpfulness has often come to mind, and I've told numerous people about this situation. She truly made such a lasting impression.
