We did the full day tour which I felt was good value.
Our guide and driver was Matt, who was just the nicest guy with a really genuine manner. He made an effort to remember everyone's names which I was impressed at.
He was also very knowledgable and gave some good history and information on the region and each winery as he drove us between them.
The wineries chosen were all very good and had not only a great selection of wines but also amazing settings. Wineries we visited were:
Leeuwin Vasse Felix McHenry Honin Stella Bella Voyager Watershed
Lunch was at Watershed and was top class, the menu was interesting and included a glass of one of their wines. It was nice to sit around a table with the other people on the tour and have a good chat.
The chocolate factory was certainly impressive with an amazing variety of products available to purchase but the 'tasting' was not up to much - 3 bowls of chocolate chips (white/milk/black) which you were free to try.
Again the cheese factory and tasting wasn't great, a few plates of cheese cubes (brie, cheddar, stronger cheddar and Mexican cheese) which were half melted.
It would be my recommendation that these two places are advertised or described as 'visits' rather than 'tastings'.
Overall it was a really good experience and I would recommend to any contemplating a tour booking with Margaret...
Read moreWe had a lovely day with Craig on the gourmet food and wine tour. It was such a help to get picked up and dropped off at our accommodation as it allowed the three of us to enjoy all the wines. The commentary by Craig was well judged in terms of the amount of information provided, so there was also opportunitues to chat to the other members of the tour or to sit quietly and take in the scenery. The tour included five wineries of varying size and age and one chocolate shop. Personally, I would have liked to see the manufacture of the chocolates but having a food industry background, I appreciate the challenges and constraints of having visitors into food manufacturing areas. Obviously everyone has their own wine preferences so I doubt that we all liked all the wines that we tasted but there was an excellent selection of red, white and rose wines with 5-6 wines being tasted at each winery. At each winery, wines and various other items like wine glasses, decanters etc could be purchased. Lunch at Xanadu was excellent. My only negative comment would be regarding the cheese platter at McHenry and Hohnen which was disappointing in terms of choice (only cheddar cheese), only one type of cracker and some olives, served in a cardboard lidded box. However I would not let that deter you from choosing a wine tour with...
Read moreThe best wine tour I have ever been on! Thank you so much Margaret River Tours. Julie (our tour guide) was incredible. Not only was she beautifully spoken and welcoming but extremely knowledgeable about the whole wine process and Margaret River region. Right from the beginning of the tour, Julie made us feel comfortable and at ease. This continued throughout the whole day, we never felt rushed, and were always looked after. It was a pleasure having her as our guide. Another of the many perks of this particular tour was the accommodation pick up and drop off. Not having to drive allowed our whole group to relax and enjoy the many delicious tastings. The selection of wineries could not have been better, and the setting for lunch was perfect. I highly recommend Margaret River Tours....
