Cono Gelateria is definitely the best gelato place in the area (no offence for the others of course) and it's absolutely worth trying. I went there twice in order to get a taste of as many flavours as possible. In my experience (I have tried gelato all over Italy, Europe and now Melbourne) there are a few key flavours to know if the place is worth it or not to be called "gelateria" and these flavours are Coffee, Pistachio, Strawberry. I must be honest and say that I was a sceptic when I saw their strawberry for the first time (very pale colour which made me think they use milk for it and I was hoping for a sorbet), but I had a nice surprise once I actually got a taste of it. Smooth and creamy, the strawberry gelato is really enjoyable, and you should definitely try it. Pistachio, in my humble opinion, is possibly the best pistachio in town and, apart from the fact that the colour is the one you expect from a real pistachio gelato, once you try it you cannot appreciate the smoothness of the taste with that extra excitement given by the pieces of pistachio inside. Finally the Coffee, I tried other flavours, but these three are the ones that make the difference. Being Italian (Sicilian to be precise) sometimes it’s a burden when it comes to food or, in this case, gelato but Cono has absolutely nailed the coffee. Of course, everyone has different opinions about it but for me, this coffee is hands down the best I have ever had in Australia so far. As soon as you try it you get hit by the intense strength of the coffee, which isn't "ruined" by the use of sugar or milk (or whatever they use in other places to make it) instead it brings you the full flavour of a real espresso coffee with a mild creamy texture that makes the whole experience absolutely fabulous. Among the other flavours the one I didn't really enjoy was the Nutella, probably too sweet for my taste or maybe not enough Nutella in it. I will give it another go to make sure I am not wrong :)
In conclusion, I totally recommend this place (they should just put a bigger sign outside because I struggle every time I go there to see it). For all of you that are keen to try some real gelato in...
Read moreStumbled across this place this afternoon after visiting the cafe a couple doors down.
So incredibly happy to find them and welcome them to the neighbourhood! We have needed a local ice cream shop that delivers quality and this is it !
Tried a scoop of the Cinnamon and Fig in a cone which was delicious. Standing pricing single scoop $5.30, double $6.70 and triple $8.50.
Only negative I would have to say is that the scoop size could be a more generous - compared to leading competitors in Northcote, Thornbury and Preston I found the scoop size was a bit more reserved. I went with two friends and their scoops were equally sized (on the small size) so wouldn’t say this was a mistake but purposefully measured.
If the size was a bit more generous I would definitely say it is value for money, as the flavour was spot on and texture light yet creamy.
So glad they are open till 10pm; This will be great for after dinner treats when the warm...
Read moreExcellent gelato and sorbet outlet/store in Melbourne's inner North. Easy to read menu with some great flavour options. Great selection of rotating flavour specials. It's worth the price, and is a stand alone outlet. All sorbets and gelatos are made on sire with a great attention to detail and affection. Cono is not a chain store either, and will see a steady stream of customers each day it trades. And that's for a reason; excellent Gelato and sorbet. Been here many times, will go back multiple times.
Cherry sorbet at Christmas time is the...
