Visited: Sunday 8th October 2017
Pros: Great view, right on the beach.
Spacious, tables were not on top of one another.
Friendly staff and courteous. I saw one young staff member deliberately walk up to an elderly man and ask him if he would like a chair (he was waiting outside a restroom for his friend).
Food was prepared and delivered extremely quickly. We were only ordering the $9 specials for 6 of us but the meals were ready very quickly. The meat was tender and chips cooked to perfection. Every single one of us enjoyed their meal and positively commented on the food
Cons: The directions around the streets were infrequent, it was not overly easy to find
The drinks were a little expensive but they were packed with flavor
Drink preparation time could be improved. Yes, 6 milkshakes take time to prepare but it took a long time nevertheless. To the point where i was about to get up and go and see if our drink order has been overlooked. Didn't need to as the buzzer went off at that point
Drinks are not delivered to the table. This seems odd because the meals are
Other: Can do attitude of the drinks creator was great!
The younger gentleman making the drinks on the day we visited (8th October 2017) had a great attitude. Most places we go, when you ask for an ice caramel you are met with strange looks or given the excuse that is not on the menu so it cannot be done. Even if you tell them, just swap the chocolate/coffee etc for caramel you often still get, sorry we don't do that.
The person making the drinks simply hummed a bit and said, 'I'm sure we can do that, let me work it out'.
What was created was simply the most outstanding iced caramel I have ever had the pleasure of seeing (it was wonderfully presented) and tasted.
I even went back to find the person when we were leaving to specifically give him a compliment on the delicious ice caramel but alas, i couldn't find him
The real test of how good a place is, is determined by the fact whether you would go back there again or not.
I would go back to...
Read moreThe Balter Bar was very disappointing - on face value, the menu looks amazing. There were 6 of us and we ordered a variety of food across the whole menu. I personally ordered the prawn & oyster plate for $38. When it arrived, the prawns were whole king prawns that required deshelling, etc. myself which should have been mentioned on the menu (otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it). It was very expensive when I had to do 50% of the work. I also got the Eazy Hazy Mussels which had around 8 mussels, nowhere near the amount you usually get when ordering a pot of mussels. My sister ordered the Ahi Tuna Wonton Nachos which lists wasabi mayo, siracha and jalapenos. She expected a few/a bit of each but the dish was completely loaded with siracha and jalapenos (like, almost a whole jar) everywhere. It was unbearably hot and she could not finish it. Again, the heat level should have been specified on the menu. My partner ordered the Philly Cheese Steak tacos and Southern Fried Chicken sliders. The menu did not state there was coriander on either of those dishes but when delivered, both were covered in coriander. My partner would have specifically requested it be removed if it had been clear on the menu as he cannot eat it. Additionally, there were no special Balter releases at the 'Balter bar' which was disappointing for our table who are very into craft beer. We had made the reservation for that reason. There was no cutlery or napkins provided by staff, I had to walk to the other side of the room to get it, and no empty bowl provided for the mussel & oyster shells or prawn shellings. Lastly, the food order was via an app and it asked if we were ordering as part of a group, which we ticked 'yes'. We all confirmed our orders on our phones within 2 mins of each other. However, there was an approximate 10-15 minute gap between the first couple's food and the second couple's, and a further 5 mins before the third couple's food to arrive. Overall a very disappointing and...
Read moreedit my earlier review (below) was from our visit in October 2022, which I rated as 4 Stars. This is my One Star amended review from our latest visit in February 2023: We ordered the same meals as it turned out, however we were informed that the house "always there" special Surf n' Turf was unavailable after the meal had been ordered and paid for while we were sitting down enjoying the view and a coldie. a substitute was ordered (the Lamb Shank, with veggies), probably about 10 or so minutes after the original order was made. meals arrived, the Fisherman's Basket (not hot, like it had been sitting on a bench for 10/15 or so minutes) and the Lamb Shank with veggies served up in a bowl (one of those large high sided laksa bowls). who in their right mind serves up a lamb shank in a bowl?? I felt like I was the Swedish Chef in the Muppets while eating. most uncomfortable. as previously mentioned, we've been visiting this establishment for near on 30 years. very disappointing. likely to look elsewhere to eat the next time were are in the area. Whenever we head down this way, we always have a meal or two at the club. It has certainly changed over the years (our first visit would have been back in the late 1990s when the dining was mainly downstairs. COVID certainly changed the way the restaurant operated, however their food choices have pretty much remained the same. pricing is reasonable considering the location and views for a couple, whereas a young family of 4 or more may find it expensive. bar and wait staff have always been in my...
