Very underwhelming for the price. My friend and I booked a $1300 in total package to treat ourselves for mother's Day, not only did we have to wait nearly 2 months to get booked in, what was to come was underwhelming.
The private bath was just a large bathtub with Jets. Would've been lovely if surprised with a glass of champagne (or as an added extra upon booking) or even orange juice with a little grazing platter. Just meh.
The retreat was okay, the infra red sauna and sauna were lovely, the pools were hot and comfortable in the sun, free tea to help yourselves but no English breakfast (there are decaffeinated options!!) To be seen, no nibbles, nothing in between treatments. (Started at 12:15, finish at 5:15)
The Cocoon was lovely, the feeling of floating in the first 10 minutes was magical but after that... It starts getting heavy. Once they came to get us, the lady attending to be wouldn't tell me anything but my friend's was much better at communicating what was going on, so my friend left (didn't know where or why) and I was told "I'll hold up the sheet while you jump out, go out the room and into the shower to wash the mud off" so there I am, naked being told to go out of the room into what looked like a hallway to me and into a shower, made me feel vulnerable and uncomfortable. A little "don't worry, the outside door is closed for privacy" would've gone a long way to a naked person. No fresh robe for myself so had to put on a cold wet robe from pools after being super warm, friend was given a fresh robe.
The relaxation massage was nice, nothing really spectacular, we added the scalp and hair treatment as an extra so they tied the massage, facial and treatment into one. The facial was glorious, until I all of a sudden have what felt like a hair dryer blowing at my face with no explanation and then she left the room. It all felt cut short but will could tell as the only clock in the whole building is in the retreat room. As my friend and I were doing everything in the same room, she sat up with a towel on her head keeping the treatment there and I sat up with no towel, so I had to wrap one myself.
We were then lead out to the lounge and presented with tea made and maybe a dollar worth (total for both of us) of dried fruit on a saucer. 5 hours with nothing to eat and presented with a dried date, 3 banana chips, 1 slice of dried apple, 5 dried berries and a dried apricot... With nothing said, we sat and waited for them to come get us to wash the treatment out, or send us on our way with a nice goodbye and thank you ... Something? We waited 15 minutes to have the lady come back and collect two other women for their treatments. We ended up having to go to reception to ask if we were okay to shower and leave...
Tl;dr friend and I had the same treatments in the same rooms, friend masseuse was super informative and checking in with her, mine was radio silent and blunt when she did speak. Huge price for mediocre service. Make sure to eat and maybe bring snacks unless you find the sound of tummy rumbling during the last 2...
Read moreAVOID My sister booked a bathing experience for 4 people for 22/07. I was one of the people due to attend the appointment however, my plans dramatically changed & I was unable to attend. I am 9 weeks post-op for major surgery, at the time my sister made the booking I had medical clearance. On Thursday 20/07, I was called into my surgeons rooms for the 2nd time that week to be examined for an acute complication. After being examined & treated I was given medical directive, by a surgeon, to not get the area wet for the following 7 days. By this stage, it was after hours & so contacting your spa wasnât an option. At 10am the following day, Friday 21/07, my sister contacted The Mineral Spa to explain the situation with the hopes of transferring the spa to a massage. We appreciate that this was unlikely given the popularity coupled with it being a last minute request. We spoke to a staff member that explained the cancellation policy as well as the window of time that changes/cancellations could occur. I took the initiative to reiterate the severity of the situation & clarify it wasnât just a âchange of mindâ scenario. I expanded my reasoning which included the complications I was experiencing as well as it being out of my hands. I again reminded of the booking policy & told that they would consult with the manager for a credit, as the window of time for a refund had closed. We were later informed that the credit had been approved & applied to my sisters account. I promptly emailed the above to the The Mineral Spa only to receive a standard "after careful consideration we cannot process your refund". Iâm deeply disappointed to read that the team are unwilling to extend grace in this situation. There's definitely a track record of this business failing to extend compassion. It shines a light on business practices, ethos as well as gives clarity to why they command full payment as opposed to a deposit ânone of these proven qualities are something I would choose to offer ongoing support to. I will be ensure to redirect any further business to other establishments as well as encourage others to follow.
You can go ahead & absorb the $90 credit your business reluctantly applied into your profit margin. Neither myself, friends nor family will not be returning to The...
Read moreI've had countless excellent experiences at The Mineral Spa, and have recommended the spa to many people. That's why I'm giving two stars. If the last treatment was my only experience, they would receive one star.
I've only had two massages at the Mineral Spa, with the first being disappointing but bearable. I put it down to a mediocre therapist, because most of the staff are great, and I'd had so many wonderful experiences.
The most recent massage however was a horrible experience. The therapist seemed lovely, but was clearly unqualified and had no understanding of basic massage principles. She did not speak to me or enquire about my level of comfort at all, or seem to understand/care that I was extremely uncomfortable. This made it awkward to speak up the times her 'technique' became unbearable.
The technique (or lack thereof) was very confusing. She spent the majority of time on one side of my body focusing on a single spot, using mostly fingertips. It was more like tickling than a massage, and felt more like a form of torture being jabbed and tickled in random patterns that defy the principles of massage than a therapeutic treatment. I'm grateful she did not attempt the deep tissue massage I had booked, because she could have done serious damage.
I was annoyed having to repeat myself about not touching a specific part of my body after she ignored my instruction the first time. I spent the entire hour feeling tense, but her disregarding my clear boundary destroyed any modicum of trust and left me feeling stressed and physically ill.
The experience left me with a massive knot in my neck which resulted in pain and limited movement, requiring professional massage to correct the injury.
It's extremely disrespectful to treat someone's body this way. I would not have given this person access to my body had I known they did not have the appropriate training or any understanding of basic massage principles. I feel somewhat violated truthfully.
With an abundance of qualified practitioners in the area, there is no excuse for the Mineral Spa to hire unqualified staff. I assume it's a fiscal decision, and if that's true, it's completely unacceptable, especially given the exorbitant cost...
