Craig Cook's Prime Quality Meats — Local services in Sydney

On two separate occasions I asked at the Northbridge shop if they had free-range pork and was assured all their pork was free range. After a little investigation I found out that this is not really true. Their pork is sourced from Byron Bay Pork who use 'Eco pens', basically a greenwashing term that means piglets are born outdoors, but after weening (4-6 weeks old) are moved indoors for the rest of their lives. This sort of pseudo free-range farming is much better than the cruel factory/concrete pen method, but is definitely not the same as free-range. It's poor form/misleading/dishonest to sell it as such, makes it harder for the true free-range producers to compete, and turns the consumer into an unwitting supporter of farming methods they are actively spending extra...

Seriously - these guys not only the most helpful and knowledgeable butchers, they are a team of some of the nicest men you'll ever meet! Always smiling, always acknowledging and providing outstanding customer service that would stack up ive ever dealt with. Amazing recruitment honestly! PLUS their meat is so delicious and fresh - I come in buy their home made chicken and chive sausages (my fav) and their home made sausage rolls fresh out of the oven are absolutely delicious. They keep weekly dinners interesting for me, and take my weekend and entertaining dinners to another level with their spices, rubs and sauces (especially their beetroot tomato sauce!). The customer service here is bad. What’s worse is the stuff they throw in a bag and charge money for. I wanted them to cut up some beef chuck into small pieces and remove gristle/excess fat. They took the whole roast, cut it in exactly the same size pieces as their regular stew beef, only this had even more fat and gristle left on it than the already prepared stuff they had in the window. They didnt ask if it was acceptable, nor did they show it to me after cutting. They just threw it in a plastic then paper bag and took my money and sent me on my way. I had bought other things that were subpar, but this time I want to warn others. If I want average meat from now on and I’m shopping in Northbridge Plaza, I’ll just go...
