In a word, these guys are absolute turkeys. I took my scooter in on the 28th December from what I suspected was a flat battery. They helped me out and took it in, despite not being a dedicated scooter workshop. I called a week later to check on the progress and was informed they had a 'skeleton crew' and had not looked at it yet. The rear clutch bearings were worn, and so needed replacement. Ok. Numerous increasingly frustrated calls later and I was given excuses that the special OEM bearings were coming from Honda with an unknown ETA. They never called me with progress or cost estimation; I always had to call them. Surfside disassembled the clutch without even having possession of the parts, so I couldn't take the bike elsewhere! Speaking with Tom to check on the progress and telling him I needed it back, he assured me that he didn't want it around either, like it was a blight on their workshop of 'cool' motorcycles. "I'm sick of looking at it" he said. Eventually, almost a month later, I told them I would take it somewhere else. They replaced the battery and put the clutch assembly back together (without new bearings, as they had not arrived). I was charged half price for labour "as a favour", walking away with a bill of $260 for a new battery only. Upon collecting the bike, I found the battery was the wrong size and not installed properly (a bit of tape to hold the cover on) and there were grease stains on the frame. Unacceptable work really. I went to another mechanic who noticed the incorrect battery right away. Calling Tom again, he denied that it was the wrong battery and perhaps I had the wrong one in there to begin with (false). He said he was 'too german' to let a bike leave the workshop in disrepair, but I'd argue he's too German to be in customer service. Heated exchanges over the phone ensued, with me trying to tell him the battery was incorrect. I had moved across the city with a newborn in that time, so his requests to come by the workshop to show/prove it to them were out of the question. I offered to send pics, but he refused. In the end, I've given up dealing with them. It's a shame, because I spoke with the owner of Surfside and he seemed like a nice guy who worked hard to build something, but his staff let him down.
PS: I took the scooter to Motorcycle Wizard in Alexandria and they fixed it in 3 business days, including parts, new (correct) battery, full service, wash, detail, and surface rust removal. Absolute legends...
Read moreI took my motorcycle to this workshop for a regular service and fluid change, and it has been by far the worst experience I have ever had with any mechanic.
They returned my bike with issues in the rear ABS system, the seat completely loose, the fuel tank covered in oil (they didn’t even bother to wipe it off), and the tyre pressure low.
To make matters worse, they used the wrong type of oil for my bike, and although they offered to replace it, the negligence is simply unacceptable.
When I brought my bike back to get these issues fixed, they assured me it would be ready by Monday. When I went to pick it up, I found out that absolutely nothing had been done. On top of that, I was treated rudely and disrespectfully by one of the mechanics, who instead of providing a solution, talked down to me and was completely unprofessional.
He told me to come back the next day, and once again, nothing had been done — not even the tyres had been inflated, despite the dashboard still showing low pressure.
They then asked me to bring the bike again on Friday and pick it up on Saturday. Today, Saturday, they didn’t even bother to call me to let me know if my bike was ready. I tried calling several times but no one answered. I went to the workshop before their posted closing time (2:00 pm) and found it closed.
This whole situation shows a complete lack of professionalism and total disrespect for their customers’ time and money. They completely ruined my weekend — I had a ride planned to the Central Coast that I now have to cancel because of their incompetence.
I feel completely taken advantage of by this workshop: they charge high prices, deliver poor quality work, waste their customers’ time, and think they can treat people however they want.
I do not recommend this place to anyone. If you value your motorcycle, your time, and basic respect, go...
Read moreAvoid this business at all costs. I recently brought my bike in and requested three specific tasks: changing the back tire, replacing the brake pads, and checking the valve adjustments. They quoted me $300 for the job, which was already expensive since I brought my own parts that I had purchased online. However, since they had good availability, I decided to proceed with the service.
The same day, they called me to inform me that my bike was ready, but then they informed me that they had performed a full service which came to a total of $670, including the original $300 quote. When I arrived to pick up my bike, the owner disappeared very quickly and sent the mechanic to try to explain why I had to pay for the full service I didn't even ask for. After arguing with the mechanic for 15 minutes, we finally agreed on a price of $430 because I wanted to get out of there.
The mechanic was lying through his teeth to justify the extra hours, and even had the nerve to try charge me $30 for an "environmental fee" to dispose of oil that didn't even need changing, nor did I ask them to change it. To top it off, when I got home, I realised the mechanic hadn't even tightened my chain after replacing the back tire.
This shop is a complete joke. I can't understand how they have a 4.5-star rating. They are nothing but a bunch of crooks. If you want to throw your money away, then by all means, give...
