My wife and I, her best friend and husband stopped here after a day at the beach. We'd heard of Reel 'Em In Fish and Chips from my sister. She said the fish and chips were excellent here and had to give it a try.

We ordered Halibut n chips x 3, an order of halibut with Jalapeno poppers, an order of calamari, onion rings and deep fried pickles.

Everything was excellent !!!

This was a very vocal meal with lots of Mmmms and Ahhhs and delighted groans .

The meaty fish had a light crispy golden batter - was simply delicious. The plentiful thick cut fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. My wife was eating her fish with her hands - like you'd eat a hamburger . The homemade tartar sauce was a perfect compliment with my fish! The gravy was thick and savoury. The onion rings and calamari had a nice crisp batter that was nice and light tasting and the homemade seafood sauce with perfect with the calamari. The deep fried dill pickles and a crispy batter as well and the pickles themselves were a little tart / sour and were fantastic. The jalepeno poppers were crispy and light, and little bit of heat and the cream cheese was hot and melty. Finally, the homemade coleslaw was the bomb! It was perfectly thick cut, creamy with a sweet taste to start and ended with a mild spice kick. I wish I had 3 of 4 servings of the slaw!!!! Part way through the meal, the owner, Donna, came out to see how we were liking our meal and to chat with us a bit. She was friendly and told us of her inspiration to own her Fish and Chips truck, and shared her passion for the food she prepared and shares with her customers. She enjoys seeing her customers enjoy the food she prepares. She treated us like family and we will definitely be back again ! My only disappointment is that I didn't have my 5 kids with us to share this experience with them.

Thank you Donna !

As soon as I got off the GO Train from Toronto, my mind already had lunch ideas going. I saw this place - checked off that it was in walking distance - and also noticed the excellent reviews. I thought: why not go for it myself?

Best decision I've made. The menu is comprehensive, is full of variety and options. The serving sizes are generous and meet the pricing for sure. I had a poutine and haddock meal and when I say that the poutine was the best I have had in a long time I mean it.

The chip van is a nice enclosure, with outdoor seating provided and is bright pink so you cannot miss it. You grab the drinks yourself, and are given your own (large selection) of seasonings and condiments for your own liking.

The ladies at staff was super, they must have saw me walk in and asked where I was going - because they wanted to configure my order so the food would not go soggy while walking (they seperated the poutine into a different container and also cut a hole in the fish container to let steam escape) - really thoughtful and shows they are knowledgeable of their work.

Some helpful advice, if you catch yourself hanging around Allandale/Waterfront and craving for some fish and chips - give this place a visit.

Definitely...

Five stars, two thumbs up ... it’s the REEL deal. We have been on a search for great fish and chips in Barrie. There is stiff competition in our city with many good to great options. BUT ... we have found THE.BEST. at Reel Em In Fish and Chips. If you have ever had fish and chips at the original Herbert’s in Killarney you will appreciate the experience to be had here in Barrie. Step up to the window on the order side of the truck, be treated to a really friendly, efficient process with LOTS of delicious options then step over to the waiting area while your order is freshly cooked just for you. Picnic tables available if you want to eat on site; you are a five minute drive from Minet’s Point; and the new Harvie Road bridge means we were home on our deck in seven minutes. Perfectly cooked, delicately battered fish (we had the halibut), and hot (yes, even after the seven minute drive) scrumptious, deep brown fries. We had the ā€˜half fish and fries’ ... just the right amount of fish and lots of fries. They are open six days a week until October 31st. Get over there. You’ll be soooooo pleased with your meal. Yup, it’s...

Outstanding! I’ve been looking for battered gf fish n chips since we arrived from the UK in 2004! I last had fish n chips while visiting the UK 2015. As a coeliac, I struggle to find incredible cuisine, often told to order the salad :( When I came to Reel Em yesterday I ordered the haddock, mushrooms, chips and coleslaw. All gluten free. It was to die for. The batter was crispy and light with enough flavour that didn’t detract from the mild sweet haddock. The chips were cooked to perfection, then dusted in a light sea salt. The mushrooms popped with juice and explode in your mouth. Then, there was the coleslaw! Crunchy, creamy with the right amount of tang. The tartar sauce was so delicious and fresh, it completed the meal. Paired with a chilled Chardonnay, I was in heaven. Thank you ladies. You over exceeded my expectations. Obviously, I’ll be back!

Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had. Batter was the perfect thickness and very crispy. Halibut was tender and flavourful. It’s hard to be impressed by fish, chips, and slaw, but I actually said ā€œwowā€ after the first few bites and my girlfriend had the same reaction. I also got a side of poutine. Fries were great but not exceptional. Cheese curds were on the smaller side so they lacked chewiness. The gravy tasted great, but they should add an extra layer in between the fries as the fries at the bottom were dry. A very solid offering overall as the flavour itself was spot on wherever the gravy could reach. The ladies are very friendly and orders were taken quickly, but the wait for the food itself was quite long on a Friday evening. There were plenty of annoyed expressions all around, but at least the food is worth the wait!

Most important is the fish. I ordered halibut and chip. Halibut was perfectly cooked with the batter having the perfect crunch without being thick or oily. Coleslaw was perfect. Chips were nice and thick, cooked great and you get so many. I wasn’t a fan of most having the thick skin though (like NY Fries). It’s an outdoor place like a big chip truck with about 4 large picnic tables for eating on. The ladies running it were very friendly. Price was good for the amount you get. However if you order the 1/2 cups with your fish you don’t get the coleslaw. I will definitely be going back. If you found this helpful please click like šŸ‘ cheers!!
