HIGHLY recommend reading this before booking a fitting at Club Champion.
Iâm giving one star not because of the fitting experience itself, but because of the exploitative and deceptive business model.
Key Warnings:
Avoid PUREing â itâs a waste of money. They charge $40 per club for PUREing, but it has no measurable benefit. No PGA or LPGA players use itâeven when itâs free. The only reason Club Champion pushes it is because they bought the company behind it. It's a clear upsell scam.
Donât fall for overpriced âcustomâ shafts. Theyâll push expensive brands like Accra, VA Composites, TPT, and LA Golf that you can only get through them. These shafts are not better than top-tier OEM shafts like Graphite Design, Fujikura, KBS, or Nippon, which are often included or low-cost upgrades when buying directly from the manufacturer. Tip: Always check with the OEM first. In many cases, you can get the same or better setup for less money and faster delivery by ordering directly from the OEM.
Orders take way longer than quoted. Custom club builds with CC often take over 10 weeks, and they may arrive in separate pieces. They quote 3â4 weeks, but thatâs rarely accurate. Ordering the same clubs online or directly from the OEM is almost always fasterâsometimes by weeks or months.
Heavier heads can affect your fitting. Club Champion uses 6 irons instead of the standard 7 iron, and their fitting heads are heavier to accommodate their universal shaft system. If you're sensitive to swing weight, this can throw off your fitting. The clubs you receive may feel very different from what you tried. To match swing weight, they often add tip weights (which donât feel great) or deliver clubs with lighter swing weights than expected. Their âtight build tolerancesâ are used to justify higher costs, but in my opinion, itâs not worth it, especially when you can call the OEM when you order the clubs to request specific swing weights. CC doesnât provide any service the OEMâs donât.
Shaft prices are inflated. For example, Ventus Velocore shafts are $350 at most premium fitters (Cool Clubs, Truespec), but $430 at Club Champion. This is true even across Canadian and US locations.
Donât buy clubs on the spot. The â50% off fitting with purchaseâ deal is a sales tactic. Often, paying full price for the fitting and buying the clubs elsewhere ends up being cheaper overall.
Better option for custom setups: If you want custom shafts and are set on CC building your clubs, consider buying a stock club set from Golf Town and ordering the shafts from Club Champion. The cost is similar, youâll get your gear faster, and you can resell the stock shafts to offset some of the expense.
Would I recommend Club Champion? Yes, but only for the fittingânot for purchasing clubs. Their fitters are knowledgeable and offer access to a wide range of shafts. However, the pricing, upselling, and long wait times are significant drawbacks.
If you're looking for a more honest and transparent experience, your best bet may be going directly through an OEM fitting center to avoid unnecessary up charges, save you money and get the clubs quicker.
Final Note on Build Work: Club Champion does solid build work, especially on unique services like hot melt. However, once your clubs are ready, they often donât notify you right away. Your gear could be sitting there for several days before...

I had high hopes for my fitting at Club Champion and was genuinely excited to get back into golf after several years. Unfortunately, my experience this morning was nothing short of infuriating and completely disheartening.
I booked my appointment two weeks ago, drawn in by the April promotion: $100 for a driver fitting and $50 for irons â clearly advertised with no purchase required. My fitting was scheduled for May 2nd, and I even received an email instructing me to arrive 15 minutes early for a smooth introduction and warm-up. I did exactly that â showed up early â only to find the doors locked until exactly 9am. Off to a cold start.
Once I was finally let in, the employee (I believe his name was David) barely acknowledged me. No warm welcome, no enthusiasm, just a reluctant handshake that I had to initiate. When he asked what brought me in, I explained that I hadnât played in about eight years and wanted to make sure my clubs still suited me. His response? He immediately pivoted to a hard-sell mode, telling me this fitting was only for customers looking to buy clubs â and that if I wasnât going to purchase, the fitting would cost $180 per club type. Suddenly, that $100/$50 promotional rate was off the table.
He pulled up the May promotion on their website and pointed to fine print that said the discounted rate only applied with a purchase. That detail was never mentioned when I booked in April. I had driven over an hour for this appointment, only to be upsold and dismissed without a shred of sympathy. Neither Dave nor the other employee showed the slightest concern for the inconvenience or confusion. The only thing they seemed to care about was pushing a high-dollar sale, not offering actual service.
When I suggested they confirm appointment details in advance with customers, Dave smugly pulled up his schedule and said he was far too busy to make those kinds of calls. Really? Too busy to ensure people donât waste their time?
I left feeling completely discouraged and judged â like I didnât belong there because I wasnât ready to drop thousands of dollars on new gear. Ironically, I was ready to invest in a new set had I been treated with an ounce of respect or interest. Instead, I took my business elsewhere and ended up buying a new set of irons and a putter the same day â from people who actually cared.
I wouldnât recommend Club Champion to anyone. You couldnât give me a free set of clubs to step foot back in that place....
Read moreI met with Tim in Calgary for a full bag fitting recently. I was mainly looking for hybrids but we went all the way through my bag. Tim really focused on the gapping of my clubs and we discovered that my 7 iron was not set up anything like the rest of my clubs. It was heavier, the shaft flex wasnât correct and the loft /lie was wrong. That may be why I hate that club. He presented options to correct it and I will be doing that. Now back to the hybrids. I am a Callaway guy but I was not impressed with the Elyte hybrids. Tim noticed right away and didnât waste any of my time. We move quickly through other brands until I had a decision to make between Ping and Taylormade. I went with the Taylormade Qi35 - #4 & #5 with upgraded shafts. A little more money than I wanted to spend but these clubs will be in my bag for a few years and I can reuse the shafts as they are adjustable adapters. I strongly recommend a fitting to give the inner self-confidence a boost. Last year I did wedges and the results were awesome. I expect the same experience from my hybrids. Do yourself a favour and go see Tim in Calgary. Great guy and very...
