I recently met a friend for a glass of wine in the Sage Café inside the Delta South Calgary. We decided on sharing some wings and I took two burgers home for my wife and I. Sorry there no pictures of the food, but more on that later. The décor is very tasteful, the service was excellent (we had a young man serving us) and the location is perfect. The Delta has so many amenities to list, but it is a first-class operation with pretty much anything you would want in a business hotel or a pleasure holiday with the family. Lots of free parking, across from a Walmart and you have a big mall just a couple of blocks away. They have a real fun games pub in the same part of the building called Southland Yard, but that’s another review. Ok the food; the wings were crispy and soft at the same time. Franks hot sauce made them perfect and they added some banana peppers as a garnish. Nice touch!! The burgers; ok, I have had many many burgers in my life, but this one pretty much tops them all. Two patties, herbed gouda, house made back bacon, etc. This burger was a very pleasant surprise. The takeout packaging was perfect and the burger was perfect when I got it home. The flavor, the size all made for a very enjoyable meal. I’m going back to have it onsite. The fires were crinkle cut. Frozen but cooked well so no real complaints here. Overall, all in all, five out five stars. The chef Michael Frayne has really excelled here. Try the Delta, either as a meal stop or...
Read moreStopped in for breakfast after doing some shopping nearby. Hoping to find a hidden gem, but was sorely disappointed.
We were seated quickly, and the manager was very pleasant, but after serving us some coffee, nobody came back to check on us. For 25 whole minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy, but there were long periods where not a single staff member could be seen. I eventually had to grab a random person and ask if someone could come take our order.
They seemed to forget about us frequently, and we had to specifically ask for the following things: Spoons for stirring coffee Refills that were promised but never came Side dishes that were ordered but then completely forgotten
I had the pancakes, but was shocked to discover they were extremely dry. I've never had pancakes that dry. I didn't know it was possible to make pancakes that dry. My over-medium eggs came out super runny and lukewarm.
I even had to get up and go to the bar to ask for syrup for my dry pancakes and ketchup for my bland potato wedges, because they never once came to check on us.
I realize they may have been understaffed, but this was intolerable. Especially considering it was the manager himself who seated us. I also heard other tables remarking on the inattentiveness of the serving staff.
I'm a local, but I won't ever be back. Hotel...
Read moreI tried breakfast here. I am local to the area and not a hotel guest.
The staff was friendly and attentive.
I had their "classic" which is eggs, bacon, deep fried potato chuncks, and toast.
The presentation was nice and it came to the table quickly.
The bacon was thick cut and cooked perfectly. Best part of the breakfast.
Sour dough toast was good, but I hate when you get "in house made" compote. Which is really just cheap berries heated up with some sugar. It's runny and the berries fall off the toast. It makes a mess because you have to try to smash the berries to spread them. Just give me jam.
I asked for the eggs over easy, but they came over snotty. I hate undercooked egg whites, it's so gross. Cooking eggs properly should be a key job perfomance metric for every chef and line cook. Sort of how you expect a high school graduate to know how to count to 10. It's core.
I hate that orange seasoning they put on the potatoes. It tastes terrible and I wish restaurants wouldn't do it. I never eat the potatoes with this seasoning. So it makes me feel like I was ripped off.
The first cup of coffee was good. The "warm up" I was offered and accepted actually cooled my coffee down....☹️.
Overall disappointed and...
