Southland Yard Bar and Table — Restaurant in Calgary

Pizza was great. I was able to finish the whole thing comfortably even though at first I felt full halfway through. They accommodated my food sensitivities with care. It was not busy today when we went for lunch. I got pizza without the sauce because the sauce has oregano in it. I substituted the sauce with fresh tomatoes, which was grape tomatoes. The grape tomatoes were sliced in halves. I got pork belly (non-cured), onions, and mushrooms on the BYO pizza. The cheese was white. The crust was crispy on the edge and bottom. The BYO pizza without the sauce seems to be the only thing I can get there with my salicylate and nitrate-restricted diet. I got to use an Entertainment App coupon and charge my phone in a wall socket by the fireplace near the far corner from the west entrance. We also got to watch TV in our booth that we could control (volume and channel-wise). We watched the FYI channel. I think maybe they replaced the pool table with those TVs. This is not my first time at boomtown. I travel for work and come to stay at the Calgary Delta South often. The food has always been good and tasty at boomtown pub. no drop in quality and no disappointing surprises (although their wedge salad needs alot of work. Soggy undercooked bacon and room temp lettuce is not good) but this current business trip, boomtown pub knocked it out of the park and inspired me to submit my first review of their establishment purely based on the exceptional service we received from our server, Ashley. Engaging, intimately knowledgable with the menu, made great suggestions that did not let me down...but what mattered more was her amazing soft skills. Glowing big smile from ear to ear, positive, infectious energy and shes clearly very enthusiastic about her restaurant! She made the overall experience a four star review. I work in a customer-centric industry. My job is to visit our offices and ensure we are meeting expectations. We didn't feel like driving anywhere and the reviews looked good for this pub. It's attached to the Marriott Hotel. We were greeted warmly and our server's name was Jane. She was delightful and sure contributed to our enjoying our evening. I didn't realize it was half price vino night and had ordered a beer. She apologized for not informing us of this. She took back the beer and brought the Malbec I ordered in replacement. I didn't get charged for the beer. The food was not that great. We started with the Crispy Chicken Sliders (really good). I ordered the Haddock and yam fries. The fish was cooked as it should be (a 5 for that) but the yam fries were warm. My partner ordered the Chicken Lettuce Wrap and didn't like it at all. She didn't want to eat it and our server offered to replace it. A pizza was the replacement. They have a couple of games to keep guests occupied, for example, free pool table, bocce ball, pin ball machine and of course, if looking for a sport to watch, lots of TV's. It was a nice evening, just a bit disappointing...
