I live in Elora and had an extremely disappointing experience at this LCBO a few weeks ago. I was running errands with my 16-year-old daughter and her friend and decided to bring them into the store rather than leave them waiting in the car during a heat warning. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a BIG MISTAKE.
When I reached the till to pay, the employee demanded to see ID from both my daughter and her friend. I questioned why she would ask for identification from two clearly underage teenagers who werenât attempting to purchase anything. She explained that because it looked like we had been discussing products in the store, it suggested I was buying alcohol for them.
In reality, I had simply pointed out a bottle of wine because it was beautifully wrapped in floral paper and mentioned to the girls that it would make a lovely gift. Apparently, in the LCBO, if youâre shopping with minors, staff feel entitled to monitor and police what you talk about.
After being forced to argue my case with three employeesâincluding the managerâand doing so in front of a line of other customers, I was finally permitted to complete my purchase. It felt as though they were doing me a favour by âallowingâ me to shop there. They also threatened to call other stores in the area if I decided to take my business to another LCBO location.
Since when is this considered good customer service? I fully support efforts to prevent underage drinking, but harassing and publicly shaming responsible parents is certainly not the way to do it. Perhaps it's time to review your store policies and employee protocol by adding in a section on...

Read moreI was extremely disappointed with my recent visit to this LCBO. A mother with a small child needed to use the washroom, but the staff refused to allow it. I understand policies exist, but sometimes compassion and common sense should prevail, especially when it involves a child. At winter. When the public washroom is closed for the season. It was upsetting to see such a lack of...
