UPDATE....its amazing how time can change things....this store has gone from great to gross. I don't know if it's new management or what but the store is filthy, they are trying to sell expired meat and I saw 5 heads of lettuce selling for 2.88 that had green slime all over them and all brown spots all over them. They also aren't keeping stock in the store and rarely have sale items available. I don't know if it's just this store on Truscott or if it's all of the Food Basics stores. Hopefully someone with some influence reads this and makes some changes because I won't be shopping there anymore I til things change. Used to be a great place to shop....now it's a great place to avoid.
Personally....I love this food basics. It is close to home and the prices can't be beat. It may not be the most fancy grocery store around but the staff is super friendly they usually have all specials in Stock. If they don't, they are always willing to issue a rain check. I used to shop at Metro but they have gone totally downhill and the prices have gone uphill. Even if Food Basics is owned by Metro, there is still a world of difference. Food Basics...
Read moreThis is an edit of my original review. The store has improved over the last few years, however I’m still opposed to self checkout. Prices have remained good and overall selection has improved as well. Although we shop elsewhere this is our primary stop. My new rant is about the USELESS merchandisers right at the end of the from of the checkout counter where your cart is supposed to unload - making unloading difficult.
Good selection and pretty good prices. Typically much cheaper than the big guys even though they’re owned by Metro. My only complaint is the new “self checkout “. Clearly they are not aware of or just don’t care about their clientele. Many older folks shop here. Shopped here this morning. Only one checkout open and another employee encouraging shoppers to use the self checkout. Very few takers. The machines must have cost many employees salaries and jobs - disappointing. Now lineups...
Read moreNo one understands what the scanning code of practice is. Bought an orchard price displayed was 11.88 but it scanned at 25 dollars. I went to customer service to have this fixed and the service girl was absolutely rude! She said I was wrong and there was nothing she can do. I brought her to the sign and showed her and she still said nope nothing I can do. There was no other prices and they were all in one basket. I asked for a manager. He came and we examined the situation and he had told her to give it at 11.88 but she refused. Who refuses to do something when a manager tells you to. He didn't know what to do. She told me I have to come back tomorrow. No I will not be going back tomorrow so the manager in charge called the store manager on his time off which isn't right. She got really defensive towards my sister and said don't start with me. Like who hires these kind of people...
