I moved to this Ford City neighbourhood in April of 2023 and, early on, a series of incidents I’d see when walking my dog - like sketchy people doing sketchy things - and having my bike stolen right off my porch made me dislike the neighbourhood - a lot.
I made up my mind that, as soon as my lease was up, I was moving and until that time I just kept to myself - went to work, came home, walked my dog and into the house for the night - every day.
I walked by the store all the time when walking my dog but never went in despite being curious.
I’ve known a lot of neighbourhood variety stores throughout my life and just assumed this one was like all the rest - taking advantage of folks who couldn’t/ didn’t get to the grocery store for better priced items with higher prices, lower quality, and less variety. This assumption kept me from going into the store until one evening - about a year after moving into the neighbourhood - when I really needed an item and didn’t feel like driving to the grocery store.
I can’t even begin to express how pleasantly surprised I was at what I saw in the store - sooooo much variety; really good quality; and at incredibly fair prices! I seriously could not believe what I was seeing, and believe me, my first time I probably took at least 1/2 hr to really really check the place out lol I truly couldn’t believe what I was seeing was true 😂
The evening staff I met at the time (who still work there) - David, Simmer, and Julian were, and still are, always so friendly and helpful - no request ever feels like a bother - they’re always so happy to help.
Eventually, while working from home, I would go in during the days and got to meet the owners Sam & Faith. Wow - such lovely people! I got to know Sam a little better when going in for my early morning coffee and, to see him visit with his morning regulars (like Roy ☺️), is so warm & touching - so wholesome.
This, and chatting with Sam & Faith and learning about their business ethic and their sense of community responsibility, really endeared me to both of them, the staff, and the store so much more.
I began to shop here far more often than at the grocery store. If I can get it at Charron’s that’s where I go - I am completely onside with supporting a small local business like this over a chain any day and as much as I can.
The store is always clean, well maintained, and well-stocked with great variety at great prices! If they don’t have something you want ask and they’ll get it!
Something very special happened when I started shopping here more frequently - I started to get to know my neighbours! I’d run into them and visit with them at the store, when walking my dog near the store etc.
This store is such a wonderful and valuable asset to the neighbourhood - it’s a neighborhood hub. It truly turned my perspective of this neighborhood around. There are still sketchy things that go on around the neighborhood but honestly, I notice that less and see the good in the neighbours that I have met at the store much more.
This store has made me see and value neighbours that do make this neighborhood a great one!
The staff are wonderful and honestly treat everyone with kindness and respect - they don’t treat their work like “just a job” but treat it like it’s their business too and like it matters to them that customers are happy.
Sam and Faith’s kids also started working at the store regularly in the past year and they’re just as lovely as their parents!
All the folks here are all such beautiful people and it’s an absolute pleasure to shop here. This store is, without a doubt, the best in its class! I cannot say enough just how much I appreciate this store and the folks who own/ work here!

Read moreI highly recommend attending this store in the evening hours only. The owner Faye is rude and condescending which takes away from the fair pricing.
There was absolutely zero attempt at a resolution. Sam you never even checked your cameras for July 20, to verify that I am indeed telling the truth , to check for the customer that was being tended to by Faye while Faye continued with her lack of professionalism and disrespect towards me. Faye has lied accusing me of saying I'm not paying my tab, which was paid days later, in July. You even got to see with your own eyes how she talks to me and how little she cares about other customers. If she was trying to resolve things she would not have started the conversation with that confrontational ,loud , and DEMANDING voice and attitude with which she did! And she damn sure wouldn't have put her hands on me and try to push me! Why did you both want me to go back there? So we werent on camera or something? I have been in your store and paid tabs for other ppl even! I have been following through with my word, as I ALWAYS do, and contacting everyone I'm aware of who have experienced the same unprofessionalism and flat out rude behavior from Faye and they are either coming in to speak with you directly Sam, or calling to speaking with you Sam directly. It's been brought to my attention that ppl have indeed spoken with you sam regarding Fayes lack of professionalism and all around rude behaviour and that you act surprised every time. So i am advising everyone to come here and post their reviews as well so there is no denying things I do not appreciate either of you calling me a liar, especially you Sam! Because you CLEARLY never even checked the cameras! That was...
