Took this train on April 20 leaving from Toronto to Vancouver! Arrived April 24th in Vancouver! First the ++++ The Food was amazing and the car Attendants were also very nice! Very helpful and courteous! We had a cabin for 2 ! Top and lower bunk! Much too small and crowded and to be quite honest if I were to do this again and I might I would book a birth for 2 as you have much better seating and the sleeping a lot roomier! It’s not as private but it’s worth the space! The price is also considerably lower as well! You get all the perks of the room. With meals and everything even more room for suitcases ! The showers and restrooms are located very close to the births and are kept very clean! You get an abundant amount of towels soap shampoo ! If you are not skinny thrn don’t get the room for 2 ! The births are much more roomier! You also realize that you spend little time in your room as you h e the club car, the observation car, the games room car and all sorts things ! There are always complimentary snacks for the taking and fruit ! Dining is amazing as have a choice of 3 seatings! Also a nice choice in the menus items! Their desserts are amazing as well ! Do t even compare the meals to Amtrak Service not even close! My photos will show the proof! Now for the negative! The Wine prices are ridiculous at $ 12,00 a glass ! They also charge $70,00 for a bottle ! I guess they don't want to sell the booze! Bring your own is much better ! The service in the dining car is very good as well ! The train runs late all the way but seems to arrive always on time ! The observation car is very nice as well and it’s also a very social. I met a lot of nice people and made friendships! The scenery is great but until you get to Alberta it’s a lot of Birch Trees along the way! The beds are super comfortable and the linen crisp and clean! Save yourself some cash $$$ and book the Birth! If you can afford the top rated room it’s very expensive but then you get top service, feee booze and amazing accommodations again however remember you spend little time...
Read moreI had good trips with VIA Rail in the past, but this time was very unpleasant. When I showed the train manager my ticket she couldn't find my name in the system probably due to me booking the train ticket a couple of hours before the departure. However I offered to show her my receipt and confirmation email, but she flat out refused to look at it. When I asked her why she wouldn't just take a look, she started angrily accusing and berating me of being on the train without a ticket. Later on, she told me that she contacted VIA Rail and that I was indeed a passenger whilst not apologizing for her false accusations that I didn't have a ticket.
This unprofessional behaviour really soured the trip for me. In addition, the train wasn't very well-maintained such as how the seats and bathrooms seemed like they weren't cleaned in ages. Hopefully, VIA Rail can clean up their act but I'd recommend looking elsewhere for your...
Read moreis comfortable, but unfortunately, this is the second time I’ve had delays. This time, it was an hour and ten minutes late. The bus stopped for half an hour in the middle of the road for no clear reason, then stopped two more times. Maybe it’s just bad luck, but it’s frustrating.
I paid extra to choose my seat, yet it turned out to be a backward-facing seat against the direction of the train, which made me uncomfortable and gave me a headache. It’s disappointing that you still have to pay more just to avoid this.
Also, the station where I got off was confusing — no clear signs or directions, and it’s very easy to get lost. They should definitely improve this.
Lastly, it’s a good idea to bring your own food if it’s a long trip because the food options aren’t great and they’re overpriced.
That’s why I’m...
